Broadening the scope of intergenerational learning in environmental education
Caught between Dispensations
This article considers the generic and temporal heterogeneity of a painting titled Holy Family, made by the Antwerp painter Joos van Cleve around 1515. Hans Belting has used Joos's hybrid painting, in which a still life appears before the Virgin and Child, to illustrate where `the era before art' ends and the era of art proper begins, placing the genre of religious icon and the genre of still life on opposing sides of the line separating the medi…
The Errant Image
This article is an account of the copies made during the fifteenth and sixteenth century of Rogier van der Weyden's Deposition from the Cross ( c . 1430–35), as that altarpiece migrated from the chapel of Our Lady Outside the Walls in Louvain to the monastery of El Escorial in Spain. My primary concern in describing the journey of the Deposition from the Netherlands to Spain and the copies that it left in its wake is to show how these events and …

A Bootstrap Confidence Interval Based on a Correlation Corrected for Range Restriction
The sample correlation coefficient corrected for range restriction was bootstrapped to obtain a confidence interval on the unrestricted population correlation, rho. The technique was evaluated using a computer simulation under different values of rho and four distributions (normal, mixed, positively skewed and negatively skewed). The corrected correlation coefficient yielded accurate bootstrap intervals over the four distributions. On the average…
Control and Belief in the Just World
The just world hypothesis provides an explanation for the finding that observers derogate victims. By admitting the appropriateness of a victim's fate., observers may develop a sense of control over the possibility of similar fates. Two experiments investigated the relationship between, the magnitude of motivation for control over the environment and tendency to derogate victims. In Experiment One, situational controllability and uncontrollabilit…
