Customer Inferences about Racial Composition in Ads
Across four experiments, we use correspondent inference theory to explain customer inferences about organizational inclusiveness and ulterior motive following exposure to monoracial (same race) or interracial (different race) advertising models. The results reveal that the presence of monoracial models from a nondominant racial group (Black; Latino/a/x) or interracial models improves perceptions of organizational inclusiveness more than monoracia…
The Effectiveness of Background Blurriness in Video Advertisements
Drawing on perspectives from spatial distance perceptions and construal-level theory, we investigate how the use of blurry versus clear backgrounds affects the effectiveness of video advertisements. We demonstrate that the use of blurry (clear) backgrounds is more effective when paired with concrete (abstract) messages, thereby increasing purchase likelihood. The underlying mechanism behind this effect is that the alignment between background typ…
How to Allocate White Space in Ad Design? The Impact of Product Layouts on Perceived Entitativity and Advertising Performance
White space (empty space) is an important factor in visual ad design, yet few studies focus on the specific types of white space and their influence on ad design. In this research, we systematically review white space literature; identify two types of white space, termed interspace (space in between a product layout) and circumspace (space surrounding a product layout); and investigate their effects on product layout perceptions. In four studies,…
Trade‐induced reduction in unemployment of a high‐wage economy
This paper shows that a high‐wage country might reduce its unemployment by trading with a low‐wage economy, despite popular predictions to the contrary. We demonstrate this possibility in a Heckscher–Ohlin–Samuelson type of model with two countries, which differ only because one of them has a binding minimum‐wage constraint and a technological improvement that (despite the heightened wage) creates a comparative advantage in the labour‐intensive g…
Patterns of physical and mental co-occurring developmental health among Chinese elderly
The study emphasizes the diversity and complexity of physical and mental co-occurring developmental health issues in the elderly population in China. These findings have significant implications for the development of targeted intervention strategies that take into account the unique health changes experienced by older adults. Additionally, they can serve as evidence for the establishment of a comprehensive long-term care system
The Pattern of Foreign Market Entry of Canadian Exporters
