    Open Access•Rudolf Dekker•ARTICLE•Memoria y Civilización•2018•Cited by: 8

  • Egodocuments and History: A Short Account of the Longue Durée

Open Access•Michael Mascuch, Rudolf Dekker et al.•ARTICLE•Historian•2016

In this essay we describe changes in the ways historians have valued egodocuments over time, looking at how such materials have been used in historiography from the Classical Age to the present. Autobiographical texts and similar personal documents are not only historical sources but also, during the period we survey, considered to be works of literary writing. Accordingly, we include the contributions of scholars of literature to the historical …

  • Childhood in Dutch autobiographies, 1600–1850. Changing memory strategies

    Rudolf Dekker•ARTICLE•Paedagogica Historica•1996

This article is based on an analysis of some 1200 Dutch egodocuments (a third of which are autobiographies and diaries) of the period 1500–1850, both manuscript and printed. The development of the way parents wrote about children, and the way adults looked back on their childhood years can only be understood if the development of these genres are taken into account. One important aspect is that most of these texts were written for the children of…
