Three British Prime Ministers and the Survival of the Ottoman Empire, 1855–1902
Throughout the nineteenth century British statesmen had to concern themselves with the condition and prospects of the Ottoman Empire, both in Europe and the Near East. This article concentrates on the views and attitudes of Lord Palmerston, W.E. Gladstone, and the third Marquess of Salisbury, all of whom were in high office for over 30 years. Global Society and Its Ancient Greek Antecedents
Can a democratic Global Society become the alternative to Empire and bring order into present international anarchy? One hundred percent sovereignty in nation states gives “security” to each but creates “anarchy” in relations between states. The theory of the dual economy and African entrepreneurship in Kenya
Models of the dual economy so permeate research and policy that some very important developments are being overlooked. Their implications could considerably shift the emphasis of policy. This paper looks at this aspect of an important piece of research on Kenyan African businessmen and puts it into a context of the dual economy. The implications of a third sector in Kenya are examined alongside some Kenyan data
A numbers game (or The return of regional multipliers)
Steele D. B. (1972) A numbers game (or The return of regional multipliers), Reg. Studies 6, 115–130. The calculation of regional multipliers is a prior stage in the development of a generalized regional interaction model suitable for policy formulation. The problem must be tackled from both sides simultaneously, hypothesizing the important variables and testing them for their size and sensitivity. This exercise, with its greater number of “leakag…
