Prediction Intervals for Arima Models
The problem of constructing prediction intervals for linear time series (ARIMA) models is examined. The aim is to find prediction intervals that incorporate an allowance for sampling error associated with parameter estimates. The effect of constraints on parameters arising from stationarity and invertibility conditions is also incorporated. Two new methods, based on varying degrees of first-order Taylor approximations, are proposed. These are com…
Local Spatial Autocorrelation Statistics: Distributional Issues and an Application
The statistics G i (d) and G i *(d), introduced in Getis and Ord (1992) for the study of local pattern in spatial data, are extended and their properties further explored. In particular, nonbinary weights are allowed and the statistics are related to Moran's autocorrelation statistic, I. The correlations between nearby values of the statistics are derived and verified by simulation. A Bonferroni criterion is used to approximate significance level…

The Analysis of Commuting Patterns
If we define a commuter living in a zone i as an individual whose place of work is in some zone, j ≠ i, then clearly the proportion of commuters in i will be a function of, among other things, the size of i. In this paper, various models based upon work by Kulldorff (1955) are examined which enable estimates of the real level of commuting to be formed from such size-linked data

Space-Time Modelling with an Application to Regional Forecasting
In this paper, we consider autoregressive, moving average and regression forecasting models which may be applied to space-time data sets. The basic structure of the models is outlined, and some of the principles involved are illustrated by an application to data given in Casetti and Semple (1969). These data describe the diffusion of tractor owner- ship in 25 states of the central U.S.A. from 1920-64
The Comparison of Means When Samples Consist of Spatially Autocorrelated Observations
A basic assumption of many statistical methods, which is rarely satisfied by geographically-located observations, is that the data to be analysed represent (spatially) independent drawings from some population or populations. In this paper, we illustrate the disastrous consequences of the failure to meet this assumption upon applications of tests for means based upon Student's t distribution. Procedures are developed which enable such tests to be…
Evaluating the friction of distance parameter in gravity models
Cliff A. D., Martin R. L. and Ord J. K. (1974) Evaluating the friction of distance parameter in gravity models, Reg. Studies 8, 281–286. In this paper we consider whether map pattern (spatial autocorrelation) among the population values in constrained and unconstrained gravity models calibrated by least squares regression hinders interpretation of the coefficient of the distance term. It is shown that, except in certain cases which are most likel…
