  • Food Equality

Open Access•Ester Oras, Mari Tõrv et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Method…•2026•Referências: 10

Biomolecular archaeology has significantly advanced our understanding of ancient foodways. However, the inevitable methodological biases of those novel methods might give deviating, even contradictory results. This paper highlights the major challenges of, but also potential solutions for, combining and comparing multiproxy dietary data. A rich dataset covering human skeletal remains, pottery, and zooarchaeological records from habitation and bur…

  • An Egyptian Mummified Crocodile from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Preserve (Ukraine)

    Open Access•Yevheniia Yanish, Dario Piombino-Mascali et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Lituana•2025

This study presents the first examination of an Egyptian mummified crocodile from the collection of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Preserve (Ukraine). Archival research established that the specimen was donated to the Archaeological Museum at St. Volodymyr’s University in 1860 by Dr. Joseph Shkuratovsky who likely obtained it in Upper Egypt in the mid-19th century. The mummy had never been studied by Egyptologists, bio-archaeologists, or zoolog…

  • Segregated food culture? Bronze Age (1250–500 cal BCE) dietary practices in northern Estonia

Open Access•Mari Tõrv, Shidong Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025•Citada por: 1•Referências: 7

Multi-proxy study reveals Bronze Age diet in Estonia was plant-based. • C3 plants were staple food across all social groups. • Meat and fish intake increased after 800 cal BCE. • No dietary differences between stone-cist and hilltop groups. • Regional dietary differences begin to emerge across the Eastern Baltic. The Bronze Age (2000/1750–500 BCE) in the Eastern Baltic has been considered a period for increased social stratification. While previo…

  • Stone Age imitation of a slotted bone point from Pärnu River (south-western Estonia)

Open Access•Tõnno Jonuks, Shidong Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Estonian Journal of Archaeology•2023•Referências: 13

This is an in-depth study of a mimicked slotted point, carved from a cervid longbone, found in the lower reaches of the Pärnu River. The 3D digital model, created during this study, provides an interactive and innovative tool for studying the object in detail. The AMS dating places the artefact at the very beginning of human habitation in the present-day territory of Estonia. SEM-EDS, ATR-FT-IR and GC-FID/MS analyses demonstrate that this unique …

  • Classification of archaeological adhesives from Eastern Europe and Urals by ATR‐FT‐IR spectroscopy and chemometric analysis

Open Access•Shidong Chen, Signe Vahur et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2022•Citada por: 8•Referências: 44

Attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform‐infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FT‐IR) analysis of 100 adhesive samples from different prehistoric composite artefacts, pottery, and amorphous lumps across Eastern Europe and Urals were conducted with the aim to establish a fast analytical screening method for adhesive assignment. The ATR‐FT‐IR analysis allowed the identification of major chemical components of the adhesive samples that were assigned to th…

  • The conservation of collective-owned farmland via the transfer of development rights (TDR) in China--the case of Ecological Fruit Park in Guangzhou

  • Bacteria and poisonous plants were the primary causative hazards of foodborne disease outbreak

Open Access•Yongqiang Li, Yaling Huang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Bacteria and poisonous plants were the primary causative hazard of foodborne diseases. Some specific measures are needed for ongoing prevention and control against the occurrence of foodborne diseases
