  • Were You Expecting This? The Effects of Infertility Struggles on Negative Self‐Concept and Workplace Outcomes

    Open Access•Manuela Priesemuth, Mary B Mawritz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2026•References: 142

Medical research has demonstrated that infertility is pervasive in the world's adult population and has detrimental effects on a sufferer's physical and mental health. Yet, little research has investigated how infertility affects a person's work life. We examine the toll infertility takes on employees and the effect this condition can have on work conduct. We propose a serial mediation model that explains how infertility struggles influence how p…

  • Leading schools as complex systems: Exploring a new strengths-based approach

    Open Access•Michael A Johnson, Michael Ian Johnson•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2025

Introduction Education has become a complex and unpredictable landscape, creating a need for a paradigm shift in school leadership from deficit-based “firefighting” to designing new, strengths-based approaches that can effectively address emerging challenges in modern educational environments. Methods This qualitative exploratory study introduces a Strengths-Based Inquiry System (S-BIS), designed to identify attractive quality indicators through …

    Open Access•Mayari Hengstermann, Anaité Díaz-Artiga et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education & Behavior•2021

BACKGROUND: Household air pollution adversely affects human health and the environment, yet more than 40% of the world still depends on solid cooking fuels. The House Air Pollution Intervention Network (HAPIN) randomized controlled trial is assessing the health effects of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stove and 18-month supply of free fuel in 3,200 households in rural Guatemala, India, Peru, and Rwanda. AIMS: We conducted formative research in …

  • Reflection-In-Action in Land Use Planning: Can We Do Better

Mahyar Arefi, M St Clair Greywoode et al.•ARTICLE•Planning Practice and Research•2019

The current wedge between planning education and practice on one hand, and planners’ crisis of identity on the other, call for developing more integrative teaching strategies with measurable outcomes. This paper explores how planners can integrate site planning and design techniques with real estate bottom-lines. Based on project reports for a land use and management class at the University of Texas at Arlington planning program, three teams prop…

  • The Shamba Chef Educational Entertainment Program to Promote Modern Cookstoves in Kenya: Outcomes and Dose–Response Analysis

    Open Access•W D Evans, Bonnie N Young et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Shamba Chef was successful in influencing determinants of cookstove purchase and use, and there is evidence from the qualitative study that it influenced the purchase and use of improved biomass stoves

  • Archaeogaming: An Introduction to Archaeology in and of Video Games

    Michael A Johnson•ARTICLE•Journal of Eastern Mediterranean…•2019

Archaeogaming, by Andrew Reinhard, is an introductory text to a relatively new subfield of archaeology. At first glance, the title of this work immediately brings to mind media studies of archaeology focusing on well-worn characters such as Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series or the various adaptations of Indiana Jones to the gaming universe. While Reinhard does spend some time discussing media representation of archaeology and archaeologists …

  • Seasonal fuel consumption, stoves, and end-uses in rural households of the far-western development region of Nepal

Open Access•Nicholas L Lam, Basudev Upadhyay et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2017

Understanding how fuels and stoves are used to meet a diversity of household needs is an important step in addressing the factors leading to continued reliance on polluting devices, and thereby improving household energy programs. In Nepal and many other countries dependent on solid fuel, efforts to mitigate the impacts of residential solid fuel use have emphasized cooking while focusing less on other solid fuel dependent end-uses. We employed a …

  • The Sunderland Cottage: The Favourite and Typical Dwelling of the Skilled Mechanic

    Michael A Johnson•ARTICLE•Vernacular Architecture•2010

During the industrial revolution, the great influx of people into Britain's towns and cities created a demand for housing that far exceeded the existing supply. Faced with the problem of accommodating the new industrial classes, Sunderland (County Durham, UK) evolved a distinctive form of low-cost housing: single-storey terraced homes that came to be known as Sunderland cottages. Rare in England, the form may be understood as a 'terraced bungalow…

  • Nucleotide and Amino Acid Sequence Analysis of the 100K Protein of a Serotype 3 Porcine Adenovirus

    Otniel E Dror, Richard J McCoy et al.•ARTICLE•DNA Sequence•1997

The genomic region between map units 69 and 78 of a type 3 porcine adenovirus (PAV3) was sequenced and analysed. An open reading frame (ORF) of 2514 nucleotides encoding a polypeptide of 838 amino acids and approximately 94.1 kDa was found. The size and location of the ORF suggested it was the PAV3 homologue of the 100K gene and this was confirmed by nucleotide sequence comparison with the 100K of human adenovirus type 2. Amino acid sequence alig…
