Characterizing style of participation among Texas inshore recreational fishing guides
Displacement and associated substitution behavior among Texas inshore fishing guides due to perceived spotted seatrout declines
Using a styles of participation self-classification measure to characterize highly specialized anglers: Styles of participation
The purpose of our study was to develop a measure of angling guides’ contextual styles of participation and investigate its ability for revealing heterogeneity among this highly specialized population. Data drawn from a sample (n = 391) of licensed Texas Gulf Coast inshore fishing guides revealed that a self-classification measure that explicitly identified attributes of the preferred style of fishing, such as bait, tackle, and technique, was eff…
Unintended Bigamies: Holy Widowhood, Marriage, and Sponsa Christi in Erasmus's De Vidua Christiana
Christ's brides were hell bound by the end of the Middle Ages, when women—in the figure of the witch—were increasingly seen as Satan's spouses. Such is the narrative arc of Dyan Elliott's significant recent study of sponsa Christi (bride of Christ), The Bride of Christ Goes to Hell . Elliott points toward the incarnational logic of Christianity in general and the type of physically immanent bridal mysticism that flourished among late medieval wom…
Henry Hills Goes Ranter
Henry Hills, a prominent seventeenth-century printer, was a Ranter in 1649–1650. I argue that Hills can be identified as a member of this short-lived, loosely affiliated group based on the ideas contained in his 1651 spiritual autobiography, The Prodigal Returned, as well as what we know of his social and cultural contexts during this period. Recognizing that Hills was a Ranter during this period will not only help us to better understand Hills o…
Bigamy, Religion, and the Law: The Sister Wives at Court
Analyzing the court’s opinion in Brown v. Buhman (2013), a constitutional case brought by the family from TLC’s hit show Sister Wives, I show that bigamy statutes in the United States enshrine Reformation-era Christian theologies of marriage into the law. I read Brown as part of an ongoing reshaping of the relationship between “church and state” in Western societies. I trace the ways in which Brown participates in this restructuring through the f…

A Randomized Trial Comparing Pharmacists and Technicians as Dispensers of Prescriptions for Ambulatory Patients
This article describes a study on the impact of utilizing technicians in the dispensing of prescriptions for ambulatory patients. The two hypotheses were 1) there is no difference in error rate for prescriptions dispensed by pharmacists versus technicians, and 2) there is no change in the amount of time pharmacists spend counseling patients after technicians begin dispensing prescriptions. Power analysis indicated that a sample size of 900 prescr…

Fraternity Auditing Service
T HE period from 1920 to i928 was a building era for the Greek-letter organizations. By 1930 national fraternities owned 1,874 houses valued at $72,521,174.1 Many of these houses were financed when interest rates were high and when building materials were expensive. Incoming members of these organizations often shouldered enormous debts which had not been retired. Fraternities began to face new problems in attracting members. Some of the activiti…
