  • Breath and the Brahmacārin

    Robert Leach•ARTICLE•Indo-Iranian Journal•2022•References: 4

In this paper I offer a solution to the meaning of the word triṣaptā́ḥ found at the beginning of the Atharvaveda ( Śaunaka-Saṁhitā 1.1.1 ~ Paippalāda-Saṁhitā 1.6.1). After a discussion of the many previous attempts to understand the meaning of this term in this particular verse, I propose that triṣaptā́ḥ refers here to ‘three times seven’ breaths, that the speaker of the verse in question is a Brahmacārin, and that the sūkta as a whole is intende…

  • Russian Futurist Theatre

    Robert Leach•BOOK•Russian Futurist Theatre•2018

A study of a key modernist form, its theory, practice and legacy What do we know today about the theatrical ferment caused by the scandalous group of Russian writers, artists, musicians and theatre makers who called themselves ‘Futurists’? What can we learn from their iconoclastic and exciting theatre works? Underpinned by theoretical writings, manifestoes and demonstrations, Russian Futurist Theatre explores one of the most brilliant but least d…

  • New Choices for England' Sub-National Government

    Open Access•Neil Barnett, Robert Leach•ARTICLE•Public Policy and Administration•2004•References: 5

Referendums in three northern regions may not only decide the future of English regional devolution, but also radically alter the structure of English local government. Unitary local authorities may ultimately be introduced everywhere after decades of abortive reforms, not because of their perceived advantages, but as the casual by-product of regional devolution, and fears that England might otherwise appear over-governed. This article reviews th…

  • Incrementalism and Rationalism in Local Government Reorganisation 1957-1996

    Open Access•Robert Leach•ARTICLE•Public Policy and Administration•1997•References: 12

This article seeks to apply rationalist and incrementalist models of the policy process to local government reorganisation from 1957 to 1996. The ambiguities and tensions in the models between description and prescription and between process and outcome are briefly explored, and the complexity of the models acknowledged, as a prelude to their application to the wide variety of approaches to the structural reorganisation of local government. While…
