  • Between church and state, confession and science on the position of theological faculties at German universities

    Jochen Schmidt•ARTICLE•International Journal for the…•2021

Christian Theology at the German university falls between two stools in many ways: Theology is an academic discipline and participates in the freedom of science; at the same time, theology is linked to the church by laws between the churches and the Federal States; furthermore, theology serves to train school teachers and/or ministers, though it also contributes to the life of the university in conjunction with other disciplines and fields of stu…

In the process of secularization, »the sacred« has transformed and emigrated into contexts which are not explicitly religious. If theology hopes to foster a relationship between this new secular-sacred constellation and the Christian tradition, it would prove helpful to introduce a third, intermediary term. To this end, the following essay explores the plausibility of the term »Unverfügbarkeit« - unavailability.

    Jochen Schmidt•BOOK•Mythos 'Wille Zu Macht'•2016

    Jochen Schmidt•BOOK•Kommentar Zu Nietzsches Die…•2012

Referred to by Mazzino Montinari as "Nietzsche's most difficult work," The Birth of Tragedy plumbs ancient traditions, and is oriented to the worldviews expressed by Schopenhauer and Wagner, whose 'musical dramas' Nietzsche presents as the "rebirth of tragedy." Nietzsche's own work and his cultural critique were primarily informed by Dionysian notions. Directed against decadence, the Dionysian became a semaphore for the ecstatic celebration of li…

  • Klage

    Jochen Schmidt•BOOK•Klage•2011

Ausgangspunkt …

  • Multi‐scale landform characterization

Open Access•Jochen Schmidt, Robbie Andrew et al.•ARTICLE•Area•2005•References: 9

One fundamental objective in geomorphometry is to extract signatures of geomorphologic processes on different spatial scales from digital terrain models (DTMs) and to describe the complexity of landforms as the synthesis of those individual imprints. We present an approach for characterizing land surfaces on multiple, spatially varying local scales. We approximate terrain surfaces locally to calculate surface derivatives at different window sizes…

    Mark W Roche, Jochen Schmidt•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1992
