A Retrospective Data Analysis for the Risk Evaluation of the Development of Drug-Associated Jaw Necrosis through Dentoalveolar Interventions
This study aimed to analyse the development of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in patients who underwent surgical intervention to identify potential risk factors between three different groups sorted by the type of oral surgery (single tooth extraction, multiple extraction, osteotomy). Data from patients with this medical history between 2010 and 2017 were retrospectively analysed. The following parameters were collected: sex,…
Deutschland zur See: Nationalismus, Imperialismus und Androzentrismus in der populären Marineliteratur des Kaiserreichs
The article examines a genre of popular literature that accompanied the build-up of the German navy in the 1880 s and 1890 s. This Marineliteratur produced seminal images and narratives closely related to political naval and colonial discourses of the Deutsches Kaiserreich. The proponents of a national navy were then able to draw upon the wealth of these “naval fantasies” for their own propaganda. By appealing to a broad audience, but especially …
Kobra Surgery Simulator—A Possibility to Improve Digital Teaching? A Case-Control Study
Computer-aided simulations have long been of great importance in university teaching; however, to date, there is limited use of such simulations in the dental surgical sector. For this purpose, an oral surgery simulator, "Kobra", was implemented in student training and was evaluated for dental education. Dental students (group 1, third-year and group 2, fourth-year) and dentists of the faculty (control group) were trained to use the simulator. Th…
Who can take advantage of medically assisted reproduction in Germany
Compared with other European societies, access to medically assisted reproduction (MAR) in Germany is rather restrictive. Surprisingly little is known about the actual utilization of MAR in Germany and its social selectivity, primarily due to a lack of appropriate data. This article studies the use of MAR by drawing on 11 waves of the German Family Panel (pairfam), an annual survey that collects data on partnership and family dynamics in Germany.…
Multi-dimensional couple bargaining and housework allocation
Research on couple bargaining and housework allocation focuses almost exclusively on partners' economic resources. In this study, we ask whether additional bargaining resources, namely physical appearance and social networks, may exert a distinct effect - that is, whether partners can mobilize multiple resources within their bargaining framework. A focus on multiple bargaining chips is made possible by the German Socio-Economic Panel Study. In li…
Day-care availability, maternal employment and satisfaction of parents: Evidence from cultural and policy variations in Germany
This study investigates how the availability and expansion of childcare services for children aged under 3 years relate to the subjective wellbeing of German mothers and fathers. It extends previous studies by examining in more detail the relationship between day-care availability and use, maternal employment and parental subjective wellbeing during early childhood in a country with expanding childcare services and varying work–care cultures. The…
The Rise and Decline of the Male Breadwinner Model: Institutional Underpinnings and Future Expectations
In this article, we provide a long-term East–West comparison of partnered women’s employment from the 1940s into the first decade of the new millennium in Germany, and focus on the nexus of gainful employment and family-related responsibilities in women’s lives. Based on an analysis of the institutionally and culturally shaped opportunity structures that define the conditions for partnered women’s employment, we identify distinct periods of suppo…
Labor and Love: Wives' Employment and Divorce Risk in its Socio-Political Context
We theorize how social policy affects marital stability vis-à-vis macro and micro effects of wives' employment on divorce risk in 11 Western countries. Correlations among 1990s aggregate data on marriage, divorce, and wives' employment rates, along with attitudinal and social policy information, seem to support specialization hypotheses that divorce rates are higher where more wives are employed and where policies support that employment. This is…
