  • Hierarchical materials from fused silk

Open Access•Qichen Zhou, Xitao Yu et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Sustainability•2026

Silk is an extraordinary natural material whose unique chemistry and hierarchical organization enable performance beyond that of many synthetic counterparts. However, its poor processability arising from the molecular folding patterns of fibroin makes fabricating shapes other than fibres conceptually challenging. Here we report a simple and rapid thermomechanical process to fuse silk fibres into solid materials of arbitrary shapes. This approach …

  • Analyzing the relationship between the 18th-century Beijing hutong system and urban landmark roads using spatial network analysis: A case study of Dongcheng district

Open Access•Ning Lu, Sang Hyun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Chinese Architecture…•2024

The hutong system, originating during the Yuan dynasty (1271 – 1368), has undergone significant transformations while retaining its essential role in urban functionality and social interactions. Despite extensive qualitative studies on its historical and contemporary dynamics, quantitative analyses of its original configurations and integration with Beijing’s broader road network remain limited. This study examines the Qianlong Jingcheng Quantu (…

  • Has the Integrated Medical Insurance System promoted return-to-hometown entrepreneurship among migrant workers? Evidence from China

Open Access•Pengcheng Huang, Young Moon Chae et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

An important way to reduce urban–rural disparity lies in encouraging migrant workers to return to their hometowns for entrepreneurship. This paper examines the effect of the Integrated Medical Insurance System on the return-to-hometown entrepreneurship among migrant workers. Using microdata from the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) spanning from 2013 to 2019, we find that the Integrated Medical Insurance System (IMIS) significantly increases…

  • An Application of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) and DEA Window assessing Dynamic Efficiency of Korean Professional Baseball League

Philsoo Kim, Sang Hyun Lee•ARTICLE•Korean Society for the Sociology…•2023

  • Communication Strategies of Professional Sport Teams depending on the Transformation of Public Perception toward Driving Under the Influence: Evidence from Korean Basketball League

Sang Hyun Lee, Tae Sung Jeong et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Society for the Sociology…•2023

  • Construction noise effects on human health: Evidence from physiological measures

Open Access•Mostafa Mir, Farnad Nasirzadeh et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2023

Noise pollution caused by construction activities in urban areas is a serious problem. Construction noise can affect human health and well-being negatively. This study utilised physiological data including heart rate parameters, Respiratory Rate (RR), and Electrodermal Activity (EDA) to explore the effects of construction noise on human health. Different construction noise types (saw, jackhammer, pile driver, bulldozer), levels (55, 65, 75 and 85…

Drawing from social exchange theory, we investigated the relationship between job insecurity and turnover intention, and the mediating effect of organizational commitment on this relationship. Structural equation modeling was employed to investigate the hypotheses using data from 459 employees in various firms in South Korea. Our findings confirmed that job insecurity was positively related to turnover intention, and that organizational commitmen…

England side and offers a useful look at the socialization of men that could aid in further transatlantic comparisons. The question remains: does the study of masculinity have any explanatory force? Can masculinity be transformative, or is it merely reflective of power determined elsewhere? Anne Lombard deftly recasts the question by treating masculine ideals, not as a cause of historical change, but as a kind of anchor against the effects of cha…

  • Mental Activity and the Perception of Beauty in Jonathan Edwards

    Open Access•Sang Hyun Lee•ARTICLE•Harvard Theological Review•1976

Recent scholarship on Jonathan Edwards has been quite attentive to his view that the true apprehension of reality is achieved through an integrated act of aesthetic perception in which the whole personality of the knower is engaged. It has also been suggested that Edwards viewed the mind as making an active contribution to perception itself. What has been lacking however, is a systematic explication of what Edwards believed to be the psychologica…
