  • Finnish Meadow-Hay Barns in the Lake Superior Region

    This study attempts to explain, within an ecological framework, the transplanted haying systems and associated log meadow-hay barns built by immigrant Finns who settled on marginal lands in the Lake Superior region. In general, this region provided a positive environment for the establishment of log meadow-hay barns and haying systems that were functioning in Finland at the time of emigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
