Bad News or Mad News? Sentiment Scoring of Negativity, Fear, and Anger in News Content
This article examines the prevalence and nature of negativity in news content. An increasing number of studies in political communication focus on the "sentiment" or "tone" of news content, political speeches, or advertisements. This growing interest in measuring sentiment coincides with a dramatic increase in the volume of digitized information. Bush and the Iraq War on both sides of the border. Indeed, these data suggest the possibility of an international two-step news flow, where changes in the volume of coverage on NBC frequently were reflected in the news coverage on CBC and CTV during the following days. It is suggested here…
BQ in the House
We address the behavior of separatist parties participating in state legislatures in well-established democracies, taking the Bloc Québécois (BQ) as a case. Analysis of oral questions asked in the Canadian House of Commons reveals a broad set of issues addressed by the BQ; its aggregate priorities comprising many issues of federal concern. It is shown that the BQ's attention to issues of separation in Question Period mainly follows, rather than l…
Decoration by design
Magneto Motivity is a hybrid of the additive and subtractive fonts. This additive plus subtractive approach allowed me to play around with the decoration process without knowing ror certain what the outcome would be. The visual form of Magneto Motivity-which I suggest embodies aspects of our contemporary culture-turned out to be surprisingly Neo-Rococo
