Heather Schmidt, Gayle Broad et al.•ARTICLE•First Peoples Child & Family…•2020

    Open Access•Heather Schmidt•ARTICLE•The Canadian Journal of Sociology•2013•Cited by: 1

Through ethnographic research on the Confucius Institute in Edmonton and the CI Headquarters in Beijing, this pa…

Both wages and labor force participation have been declining for young, less-educated men since the mid-1970s. The purpose of this article is to examine how key income-security policy areas-including unemployment insurance, payroll taxes and the Earned Income Tax Credit, and child support enforcement-affect these men. The article concludes with policy recommendations to improve the impact of work-based subsidies on poverty among low-income men. S…

  • Gendered political socialization in four contexts

    Open Access•Jeremy D Mayer, Heather Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2004•Cited by: 28•References: 13

By looking at junior high students in four countries, we explore whether culture or level of economic development produce gendered patterns of political socialization. We conclude that girls valued participation in politics at least as much as boys, but that the …
