The effects of textbook frequency, congruency, and word class on the processing of L2 collocations by Chinese EFL learners
This study examines the roles of L1-L2 congruency, frequency, word class, and proficiency in L2 collocation processing. An acceptability judgment task was conducted to evaluate how participants processed verb-noun and adjective-noun collocations across four levels of congruency: congruent, partially congruent, L1-only, and L2-only collocations. The findings revealed that participants were sensitive to both congruency and collocation frequency. Mo…
Dilemmas in the usage of community-based home care and smart home care services for older adults among family caregivers of older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
Objective: To explore the caregiving challenges encountered by family caregivers of older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and to proffer recommendations for optimizing older adults' care services in China and enhancing the quality of long-term care for older adults with MCI. Methods: A phenomenological approach was employed to conduct semi-structured interviews with 20 family caregivers of older adults with mild cognitive impairment …
Influence of traditional Chinese thought on the performance style and creation of piano music works
The piano, which originated in Europe, is the crystallization of Western musical civilization and is known as the king of musical instruments. After hundreds of years of development, it has developed a relatively complete system of creation, performance and teaching. In this process, it can be seen that there are many piano music works with the unique style and charm of traditional Chinese thoughts, using the method of Chinese folk music and the …
“Memory Is Identity”
Most of the fictional and nonfictional works by Julian Barnes deal with identity-related memory. By raking up the theme of memory, we are led to some interesting discoveries about the author’s persistence in his postmodernist literary investigation into the nature of narrative art and the ethical implications thereof. A logical development is expected to be found between the two through close textual analysis, so as to reveal aspects of his uniqu…
Noah’s Ark in A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters
Noah’s Ark serves as the thread patching up the seemingly disorganized stores in this unique one of Julian Barnes’ master pieces. A biblical symbol of “the grace in the eyes of the Lord” to the “righteous,” the ark is nevertheless interpreted in a different way than in traditional exegetics. By close reading of each of the chapters in the novel, we hope to sort out the series of metamorphosis of the ark in different ages and Barnes’ hidden theme …
Geographic disparities in trends of thyroid cancer incidence and mortality from 1990 to 2019 and a projection to 2030 across income-classified countries and territories
Background: The rising incidence of thyroid cancer (TC) has generated growing concern globally; yet there are no studies examining whether this incidence was followed by a rise in related mortality. We aimed to comprehensively quantify current trends and future projections of TC incidence and mortality, and to explore the association between the TC burden and socioeconomic inequality in different income strata. Methods: We obtained incidence and …

Image-based approximation of derivatives of traditional differential metrics of angular distortion in map projections
Map projections are imaging procedures used to depict geographic features. We adopt the traditional differential metric and exploit the intrinsic image properties of map projections to establish an image-based differential metric for evaluating distortions in map projections, obtaining an effective, practical, and relatively accurate metric. We use bivariate polynomial functions to approximate the forward and inverse formulae of map projections. …

Image-Based Angular Distortion Metric of Map Projections by Using Surface Fitting for Noise Reduction
Measuring, analyzing, reducing, and optimizing distortions in map projections is important in cartography. In this study, we introduced a novel image-based angular distortion metric based on the previous spherical great circle arcs-based metric. Images with predefined patterns were used to generate distorted images using mapping software. The generated distorted images with known patterns were then exploited to calculate the proposed angular dist…
Regression and Evaluation on a Forward Interpolated Version of the Great Circle Arcs–Based Distortion Metric of Map Projections
We studied the numerical approximation problem of distortion in map projections. Most widely used differential methods calculate area distortion and maximum angular distortion using partial derivatives of forward equations of map projections. However, in certain map projections, partial derivatives are difficult to calculate because of the complicated forms of forward equations, e.g., equations with iterations, integrations, or multi-way branches…
Psychological Outcomes and Associated Factors Among the International Students Living in China During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Background: The emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a severe mental health problem for international students living in China. Despite the little information on the psychological impact on international students, we aimed to assess the psychological outcomes and associated factors among international students currently living in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An online cross-sectional survey was conducted fr…
Economic burden of lung cancer attributable to smoking in China in 2015
Smoking-attributable economic burden caused by lung cancer was substantial in China in 2015, and will continue increasing given current trends in lung cancer. However, future economic burden can be prevented with implementation of effective tobacco control and other interventions
