  • Culturally and trauma-informed music therapy

Open Access•Kathleen M Murphy, Viggo Krüger et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

The findings align with existing research on music therapy with trauma-exposed youth, highlighting the importance of co-creation, collaboration, and culturally responsive practice. Music-based wellness programs grounded in sociocultural and trauma-informed frameworks may offer accessible and effective supports for adolescents in school settings. Further research is needed to examine strategies for integrating music therapy and music-based wellnes…

Open Access•Juliana Araujo Teixeira, Teresa Gontijo De Castro et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2019

DFE intakes were estimated for different scenarios of food fortification with folic acid: (i) voluntary fortification; (ii) increased voluntary fortification; (iii) simulated bread ma…

  • Psychological Distress Among Resident and Nonresident Fathers

    Open Access•Nikolas F Rusten, Elizabeth R Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2019•References: 35

When fathers live away from their children, taking an active paternal role may become challenging and can add to paternal psychological distress. In a large ( N = 3,980) diverse cohort, we found that nonresident fathers are more likely to be psychologically distressed than resident fathers (27.4% vs. 15.2%) and more likely to report wanting a change in the level of involvement they have in their child's life (76.6% vs. 58.1%). Nonresident fathers…

  • Wear-Time Compliance with a Dual-Accelerometer System for Capturing 24-h Behavioural Profiles in Children and Adults

Open Access•Sue Duncan, Tom Stewart et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

To advance the field of time-use epidemiology, a tool capable of monitoring 24 h movement behaviours including sleep, physical activity, and sedentary behaviour is needed. This study explores compliance with a novel dual-accelerometer system for capturing 24 h movement patterns in two free-living samples of children and adults. A total of 103 children aged 8 years and 83 adults aged 20-60 years were recruited. Using a combination of medical dress…

  • Privatisation & marketisation of post-birth care

Open Access•Cecilia Benoit, Camille Stengel et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2012

Out results show a significant portion of participants desired services that were not publically available to them during the post-birth period. Among those who reported a gap in care, the two most common barriers were: cost and unavailability of home care supports. Participants' open-ended responses revealed many positive features of the public health care system but also gaps in services, and economic barriers to receiving the care they wanted.…

  • Motherhood, Medicine & Markets

    Open Access•Maria Zadoroznyj, Cecilia Benoit et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Research Online•2012•Cited by: 2•References: 47

In high-income countries welfare states play a crucial role in defining - and re-defining - what is offered as publicly provided care, and as a result shape the role of families, markets and the voluntary sector in care provision. Fiscal policies of cost containment, coupled with neoliberal policies stressing individual responsibility and reliance on market forces in recent decades, have resulted in the contraction of state provided care services…
