  • Machine learning and causal attribution of urban heat in the Phoenix metropolitan

Open Access•Negar Rahmatollahi, Zhi‐Hua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2026

  • Carbon footprint and the silver wave

Open Access•Chunlei Xie, Xueli Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2026

Population ageing, as a pivotal turning point in demographic shifts, presents both transformative opportunities for low-carbon development and formidable challenges. Existing literature has predominantly concentrated on the macro-level impact of supply-side factors on carbon emissions reduction. However, it has relatively overlooked the critical role of micro-level household consumption behaviors on the demand side in shaping carbon footprints. M…

  • Directed causal coupling between urban heat and air pollution in U.S. cities

Open Access•Xueli Yang, Zhihua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2026

Urban air quality and temperature are closely linked through coupled physical and chemical processes. However, most existing evidence relies on correlation-based associations lacking directionality, or process-based models whose causal pathways depend on model structure and parameterizations. Here we apply a nonlinear causal inference method to quantify directed coupling between near-surface air temperature and three major air pollutants (PM 2.5 …

  • Current status and associated factors of social avoidance in postoperative breast cancer patients

Open Access•Xian Chen, Xueli Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

The study found that 55.1% of breast cancer patients exhibited intermediate levels of social avoidance. Consequently, healthcare professionals are in a position to develop targeted interventions based on these factors to guide patients to tap into positive and active psychology, improve the level of social avoidance, and ultimately improve the quality of life. This, in turn, provides a basis for better implementation of psychological intervention…

  • Association of steatotic liver disease with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among prehypertensive or hypertensive patients

Open Access•Shiwei Yan, Qian Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2025

Background: Prehypertension and hypertension often coexist with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) during the progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD). International academic liver societies have recently reached a consensus to replace NAFLD with the new term 'steatotic liver disease' (SLD). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of different SLD subtypes on all-cause and CVD mortality in individuals with prehypertension or hype…

  • Effects of extended working lives on depressive symptoms, physical, and cognitive health in middle and later life

    Open Access•Hong Xu, Hengyi Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2025•References: 43

  • Association between urinary arsenic species and vitamin D deficiency

Open Access•Jingran Zhang, Yuxuan Bai et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Background An increasing number of studies suggest that environmental pollution may increase the risk of vitamin D deficiency (VDD). However, less is known about arsenic (As) exposure and VDD, particularly in Chinese pregnant women. Objectives This study examines the correlations of different urinary As species with serum 25 (OH) D and VDD prevalence. Methods We measured urinary arsenite (As 3+ ), arsenate (As 5+ ), monomethylarsonic acid (MMA), …

  • Causal mediation of urban temperature by geopotential height in U.S. cities

Open Access•Yihang Wang, Xueli Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2024

  • Multimorbidity, healthy lifestyle, and the risk of cognitive impairment in Chinese older adults

Open Access•Xiaolong Xing, Xueli Yang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The relationship between multimorbidity and cognitive impairment is age-dependent but remains significant in the population aged 80 years or older. A healthy lifestyle may protect cognitive function regardless of the multimorbidity burden. These findings highlight the importance of targeting individuals with heavy multimorbidity burden and promoting a heathy lifestyle to prevent cognitive impairment in Chinese older population

  • Temporal trends in mortality of tuberculosis attributable to high fasting plasma glucose in China from 1990 to 2019

Open Access•Chao Wang, Xueli Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background: Nowadays, high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG) has been identified as the important risk factor contributing to the increased burden of diseases. But there remains a lack of research on tuberculosis (TB) mortality specifically attributable to HFPG. Thus, this study aims to explore the long-term trends in HFPG-related TB mortality in China from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Data on HFPG-related TB mortality were obtained from the Global Burden …
