  • Considering equity and cost-effectiveness in assessing a parenting intervention to promote early childhood development in rural Vietnam

Open Access•Yeji Baek, Zanfina Ademi et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2023

Considering equity in early childhood development (ECD) is important to ensure healthy development for every child. Equity-informative cost-effectiveness analysis can further guide decision makers to maximize outcomes with limited resources while promoting equity. This cost-effectiveness study aimed to examine the equity impacts of a multicomponent ECD intervention in rural Vietnam. We estimated the cost-effectiveness of the intervention with a 3…

  • Proof of concept of participant informed, psycho-educational, community-based intervention for people with severe mental illness in rural Vietnam

Open Access•Trang Nguyen, Tuan Tran et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2020

BACKGROUND: There is a lack of an intervention model that empowers people with severe mental illness (SMI) and their families and addresses the mental health gap in low- and middle-income countries. There is a significant gap in care for people with SMI in rural Vietnam due to the low quality of care in the formal mental health system and the lack of access to an evidence-informed informal approach to care. OBJECTIVES: To assess acceptability, fe…

  • Can complex programs be sustained? A mixed methods sustainability evaluation of a national infant and young child feeding program in Bangladesh and Vietnam

Open Access•Corrina Moucheraud, Haribondhu Sarma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The inclusion of multiple activities in A&T and efforts to integrate the program into existing institutions were seen as crucial to its success but also made it difficult to sustain, particularly given unstable financial support and human resource constraints. Future complex programs should carefully plan for institutionalization in advance of the program by cultivating champions across the health system, and designing unique and complementary ro…

  • Social and economic development and pregnancy mental health

Open Access•Ruby Stocker, Trang Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

Changes in the socioeconomic and political context, particularly through policies to improve household wealth and reduce domestic violence, appear to influence women's lives and population-level antenatal mental health. Cross-sectoral policies that reduce social risk factors may be a powerful mechanism to improve antenatal mental health at a population level

  • The burden of clinically significant symptoms of common and severe mental disorders among adults in Vietnam

Open Access•Trang Nguyen, Tuan Tran et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

The prevalence of clinically significant symptoms of common and severe mental disorders among adults in Vietnam was higher than in high income countries and had a strong association with household characteristics. The result indicates that a community-based approach to reduce household risk factors and to provide instrumental support might be an effective strategy to alleviate the burden of mental health problems in Vietnam

  • Exclusive breast feeding in early infancy reduces the risk of inpatient admission for diarrhea and suspected pneumonia in rural Vietnam

Open Access•Sarah Hanieh, Trần Thu Hà et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Exclusive breast feeding in early infancy reduces the risk of severe illness from diarrhea and suspected pneumonia. Public health programs to reduce the burden of inpatient admission from diarrheal and respiratory illness in rural Vietnam should address barriers to exclusive breast feeding

  • Examination of General Health Following Typhoon Xangsane

Kathryn A Conrad, Ananda B Amstadter et al.•ARTICLE•International Perspectives in…•2011

An individual's health status immediately following a disaster may predict long-term morbidity and mortality. However, relative to the growing literature on postdisaster mental health, less is known about physical health outcomes, particularly in developing countries. Unlike most studies, the current investigation obtained physical health data both before and after Typhoon Xangsane, which struck the Da Nang province of Vietnam in 2006, and relate…
