  • Application of the Boruta algorithm to assess the multidimensional determinants of malnutrition among children under five years living in southern Punjab, Pakistan

Open Access•Javeria Saleem, Rubeena Zakar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

This study highlights age, mid-upper arm circumference, weaning practices, and immunization status as key determinants of weight-for-height and weight-for-age in children under five years. It also suggests that economic context may influence undernutrition. The findings can guide targeted strategies for combating undernutrition

  • Do health infrastructure and services, aging, and environmental quality influence public health expenditures? Empirical evidence from Pakistan

Adeel Saleem, Ahmed Raza Cheema et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work in Public Health•2021

Rapidly growing health expenditure is a matter of grave concern for households and governments. Every government is compelled to allocate a sufficient budget to improve people's health. This study, therefore, identifies some major factors that influence the trajectory of public health care expenditure (HCE) in Pakistan for the period 1974-2017. The ARDL-bounds test and Bayer-Hanck cointegration test consistently reveal that HCE and its specified …

  • Ammonia Volatilization and Greenhouse Gases Emissions during Vermicomposting with Animal Manures and Biochar to Enhance Sustainability

Open Access•Syed Turab Raza, Jialiang Tang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

There is a huge potential for nutrient recovery from organic waste materials for soil fertility restoration as well as negative environmental emission mitigation. Previous research has found vermicomposting the optimal choice for converting organic waste into beneficial organic fertilizer while reducing reactive N loss. However, a great deal of the processes of greenhouse gases (GHG) and ammonia volatilization during vermicomposting are not well-…

  • Pakistan’s National Accountability Ordinance and the facilitation of corrupt practices

    Zulfiqar Ali, Zulfıqar Ali•ARTICLE•Contemporary South Asia•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 5

Pakistan’s progress toward full democracy is dependent upon many variables. One major obstacle to establishment of a mature democracy is widespread corruption, which penetrates deep into the institutions of governance and accountability. Three civilian governments (1958–1971, 1977–1988, 1999–2008) have been overthrown by the military, and three (1988–1990, 1991–1993, 1994–1996) removed by elected presidents on charges of ‘public corruption.’ The …

  • Conflict between social structure and legal framework: Political corruption in Pakistan

    Zulfiqar Ali, Zulfıqar Ali•ARTICLE•Commonwealth and Comparative…•2016•References: 22

There is a growing body of literature on the conflict between social environment and legal system. This article seeks to unravel the contradiction between Pakistan's anti-corruption laws and its social world. The study of this uncharted territory becomes even more urgent when the consequences of corruption are taken into account in the broader context of Pakistan's internal cohesion, democratic development and sustainable growth. Despite the fact…

  • Pakistan, Military Coup, and Concordance: Four Objections to Schiff

    Open Access•Zulfiqar Ali, Zulfıqar Ali•ARTICLE•Armed Forces & Society•2016•Cited by: 2

In 2014, Armed Forces & Society published Ali's work, 'Contradiction of Concordance Theory: Failure to Understand Military intervention in Pakistan.' Shortly thereafter in 2015, Schiff, the author of concordance theory, responded with 'Concordance Theory in Pakistan: Response to Zulfiqar Ali.' Schiff, in the Disputatio Sine Fine (DSF) section of Armed Forces & Society , defends concordance theory and puts forward four challenges to Ali's article.…

  • Contradiction of Concordance Theory: Failure to Understand Military Intervention in Pakistan

    Open Access•Zulfiqar Ali, Zulfıqar Ali•ARTICLE•Armed Forces & Society•2014•Cited by: 4

There are several theoretical frameworks proposed by a wide range of scholars to explicate and understand civil and military relations. Rebecca Schiff's concordance theory is one of the recent models in this theoretical tradition. She argues that the theory of separation of civil and military relations given by Huntington not only fails to give an adequate account of domestic military interventions in Pakistan but also attempts to impose the Amer…

  • Indoor particulate matter in developing countries: A case study in Pakistan and potential intervention strategies

Open Access•Zaheer Ahmad Nasir, I Colbeck et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2013

Around three billion people, largely in low and middle income countries, rely on biomass fuels for their household energy needs. The combustion of these fuels generates a range of hazardous indoor air pollutants and is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. Worldwide, it is responsible for four million deaths. A reduction in indoor smoke can have a significant impact on lives and can help achieve many of the Millen…

  • Scope of Mutual Transformation of Western and Non-Western Civilizations in Foucault‟s Analysis

    Open Access•Zulfıqar Ali•ARTICLE•Journal of Islamic Thought and…•2011

nBoth Hegel and Marx believe that non-Western world is not the natural part of dialectical process as non-Western cultures don‘t seem to take part in the process of historical development. So, the only way to turn the nonWestern as Western and vice versa is through an arbitrary process as might have serious implications. Foucault also believes that discourse developing within the Western civilization does not follow rules shared by all civilizati…
