Auditory Cortex Maturation and Language Development in Children with Hearing Loss and Additional Disabilities
A significant portion of hearing-impaired children have additional disabilities, but data about the maturation of their auditory cortex are scarce. In these children, behavioral tests are often unreliable, and objective tests are needed for diagnostics and follow-up. This study aimed to explore auditory cortical maturation and language development, and the usability of an objective electroencephalogram-based biomarker in children with multiple di…

Culturally adapting the prevention of diabetes and obesity in South Asians (Podosa) trial
Type 2 diabetes is extremely common in South Asians, e.g. in men from Pakistani and Indian populations it is about three times as likely as in the general population in England, despite similarities in body mass index. Lifestyle interventions reduce the incidence of diabetes. Trials in Europe and North America have not, however, reported on the impact on South Asian populations separately or provided the details of their cross-cultural adaptation…

The effect of common rearing on adolescent adjustment
The influence of shared environmental factors on adolescent adjustment was investigated in a sample of 667 adoptive families. Correlations between parental ratings of family functioning and adolescent ratings of adjustment were generally higher for birth offspring than for adoptive offspring, suggesting passive genotype-environment processes. For all except one of the indicators of adolescent adjustment, the nonbiological sibling correlation was …
Parametric statistics and levels of measurement
Let Y be a continuous, ordinal measure of a latent variable θ. In general, for factorial designs, an analysis of variance of the observed variable Y cannot be used to draw inferences about main effects and interactions on the latent variable θ even when the standard normality and equality of variance assumptions hold
