Ecological improvement of takyric solonetz in northern China using modified ridge cultivation with drip irrigation
Soil salinization is one of the most important forms of land degradation in drylands of the world. As a typical type of saline‐sodic soil, takyric solonetz seriously jeopardizes the living environment of the inhabitants with severe consequences for regional ecology, agriculture, and the aeolian dust dynamics. Improving the vegetation and ecology status of takyric solonetz is essential but challenging because of its extremely drought conditions wi…
Planting trees in saline soil using ridge cultivation with drip irrigation in an arid region of China
Land degradation due to soil salinization is a widespread problem in arid and semiarid areas. In the Hetao Irrigation District in the upper reaches of the Yellow River in China, nearly one‐third of the land is salinized. To improve the environment in these salt‐affected regions, we conducted a field experiment in the Hetao Irrigation District from 2018 to 2020 that involved planting poplar and willow trees in saline soil using ridge cultivation w…

Contribution of soil macropores to water infiltration across different land use types in a desert–oasis ecoregion
Surface soil hydraulic properties play critical roles in controlling water infiltration, evaporation, and soil water storage, in‐turn affecting the evolution of soil pore structure in cultivated desert soils of arid areas. The variability in soil pores and hydraulic properties caused by conversion of native semidesert soils to agroforestry use alters soil water storage and water budget in the desert–oasis ecotone. The objective of this study was …
Leaching efficiency and plant growth response in an integrated use of saline water for coastal saline soil reclamation
A field experiment was carried out to evaluate an integrated use of saline water for saline soil reclamation around Bohai Bay in China. A landscape shrub ( Caryopteris × clandonensis 'Worcester Gold') was cultivated and irrigated with five water salinities (EC i ): 0.8, 3.1, 4.7, 6.3, and 7.8 dS m −1 . Drip irrigation was scheduled by evolving soil matric potential thresholds of −5, −10, −15, and −20 kPa in 4 years. A gravel‐sand layer as subsurf…
Pre-service and in-service teachers’ attitudes and self-efficacy beliefs with regards to inclusive education
Pre-service teachers (n = 1572) from five faculties of education in Ontario, Canada were surveyed at the beginning of their programme about their attitudes and self-efficacy beliefs regarding inclusive practices. These responses were compared to responses from Ontario in-service teachers (n = 739) prior to their district-wide shift from a model of segregation to inclusive classrooms. Results demonstrate that elementary and female pre-service teac…

Is There a Relationship Between Individual Learning, Team Learning, and Organizational Learning
Scholars suggest that there is a need for more research, particularly quantitative designs, that aim to examine the relationship between individual learning, team learning, and organizational learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a relationship between perceived individual learning, team learning, and organizational learning. With a survey we collected data from 106 laboratory supervisors in Ontario hospitals to a…

How Unequal Are Their Vertical Equity Measures? A Comparison of Three Canadian Provinces
The purpose of this study was to compare the foundation allocation and three special allocations for special-needs students, ESL students, and students with low socioeconomic status in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia to see what these special allocations look like as vertical equity measures. Because stronger measures are needed if educational equality of opportunity is the goal, measuring how strong vertical equity efforts are is a highly…
Preparedness to Teach
This study compared two groups of education students. One group consisted of students in a consecutive program, and the other consisted of students in a concurrent program. A survey that collected a sample of responses from 88 students in an Ontario faculty of education in the 1995-1996 academic year was analyzed quantitatively. The findings, contrary to some previous claims and present assumptions that concurrent students are better prepared tha…
