Understanding sensescapes and restorative effects of nature-based destinations
Nature is restorative for people suffering from stress and mental fatigues. While studies advocate to investigate restorative effects of nature from a multi-sensory perspective, this study also reveals mechanisms of how various aspects of sensescapes differentially influence visitors' restorative experience in nature, especially with visitors' different degrees of reduced outdoor exposure during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a mixed-methods approa…
Regional differences in the Association of Healthy Aging with the incidence of falls
Healthy aging may be more strongly associated with a lower risk of falls in rural areas, while this association might be less pronounced in urban areas due to different environmental and social factors. This highlights the need for environment-specific fall prevention strategies and targeted measures for the older adult

Navigating adaptive cycles to understand destination complex evolutionary process
There is a recent surge to unfold the tourism destination's intrinsic nature as a complex adaptive system, such as the dynamic and scale interactions among tourism system components and its environment. As the world gets more uncertain, it becomes more critical to understand how dynamic and complex interactions shape the destination's resilience and its evolution process. Yet, such is under-explored. Taking the East Suburb Coconut Trees scenic ar…
Black-carbon-induced regime transition of boundary layer development strongly amplifies severe haze
Black-carbon (BC) aerosol can strongly influence planetary boundary layer (PBL) development and thus severe haze formation, but its distinct role compared with scattering aerosols is not yet fully understood. Here, combining numerical simulation and field observation, we found a “tipping point,” where the daily maximum PBL height decreases abruptly when exceeding a critical threshold of aerosol optical depth (AOD), due to a BC-induced decoupling …
Asset assemblages and livelihood resilience in a coastal community
Both livelihood resilience and sustainability have received substantial attention from tourism researchers. Capital is crucial to livelihood resilience, and different livelihoods depend on different asset portfolios. However, the transformation of capital across livelihoods has not been examined carefully. Instead of treating capital as singular, we investigate capital as a multiplicity. We evaluate the transformation of capital through a qualita…
