  • Influence of human impacts on modern pollen assemblages and an assessment of their reliability in reconstructing climate in eastern China

  • Enhanced aridity in the source region of the Yangtze River since 5.8 ka revealed by the sediments of Saiyong Co

Open Access•Xiaohuan Hou, Lina Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2022

  • Vegetation and environmental changes since the Last Glacial Maximum inferred from a lake core from Saiyong Co, central Tibetan Plateau

    Open Access•Lina Liu, Xiaohuan Hou et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2022•References: 9

Pollen and grain-size records from a small lake (Saiyong Co) in the source region of the Yangtze River, central Tibetan Plateau are presented and used to reveal vegetation and lake environmental history since the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Results indicate that the Saiyong Co basin was a marshy environment with sparse vegetation cover from 21.3 to 6.6 cal. ka BP, before becoming a lake. Highest water level is inferred for 3.9–3.4 cal. ka BP foll…

  • Palynological evidence for the temporal stability of the plant community in the Yellow River Source Area over the last 7,400 years

Open Access•Fang Tian, Wen Qin et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2022•References: 9

  • Performance of vegetation cover reconstructions using lake and soil pollen samples from the Tibetan Plateau

Open Access•Lina Liu, Nannan Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2022•References: 7

  • The link between climate change and biodiversity of lacustrine inhabitants and terrestrial plant communities of the Uvs Nuur Basin (Mongolia) during the last three millennia

    Open Access•Natalia Rudaya, Larisa Nazarova et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 10

The paper is focused on changes in biodiversity, the environment, and human activity in the Uvs Nuur Basin during the last three millennia based on biological and geochemical proxies from the lake Bayan Nuur. Regions with high biodiversity and relatively low anthropogenic pressures are typically the most vulnerable to both climate change and human activities. One such area is the Uvs Nuur Basin located on the north of the Great Lake Depression of…

  • Representation of modern pollen assemblage to vertical variations of vegetation and climate in the Yadong area, eastern Himalaya

Open Access•Ran Zhang, Fang Tian et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2020

  • A 2000-year documentary record of levee breaches on the lower Yellow River and their relationship with climate changes and human activities

    Open Access•Wenjia Li, Wen-Jia Li et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 10

The Yellow River floodplain represents a fertile landmass that contributes significantly to human welfare and thus has been colloquially known as the birthplace of Chinese civilization. The sediment-laden nature of the Yellow River gave rise to a super-elevated channel belt, which is prone to failure particularly in the summer months when excessive precipitation occurs, resulting in cataclysmic floods traditionally regarded as “China’s Sorrow.” T…

  • Quantitative precipitation reconstruction in the east-central monsoonal China since the late glacial period

Open Access•Jue Sun, Chunmei Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2019

  • Biome changes and their inferred climatic drivers in northern and eastern continental Asia at selected times since 40 cal ka bp

    Open Access•Fang Tian, Xianyong Cao et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2017•Cited by: 3•References: 5

  • Vegetation succession and East Asian Summer Monsoon Changes since the last deglaciation inferred from high-resolution pollen record in Gonghai Lake, Shanxi Province, China

    Open Access•Qinghai Xu, Fahu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 5•References: 8

A cal. 20-year-resolution pollen record from Gonghai Lake presented the detailed process of mountain vegetation succession and East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) changes since the last deglaciation in Shanxi Province, North China. Modern vegetation distribution and lake surface pollen assemblages suggested that the fossil pollen mainly came from local and surrounding vegetation in Gonghai Lake, which reflected the elevational changes of plant commu…

  • East Asian summer monsoon precipitation variability since the last deglaciation

Open Access•Fahu Chen, Qinghai Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Scientific Reports•2015

The lack of a precisely-dated, unequivocal climate proxy from northern China, where precipitation variability is traditionally considered as an East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) indicator, impedes our understanding of the behaviour and dynamics of the EASM. Here we present a well-dated, pollen-based, ~20-yr-resolution quantitative precipitation reconstruction (derived using a transfer function) from an alpine lake in North China, which provides fo…

  • Characteristic pollen source area and vertical pollen dispersal and deposition in a mixed coniferous and deciduous broad-leaved woodland in the Changbai mountains, northeast China

    Open Access•Shengrui Zhang, Qinghai Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 3

  • Spatial and temporal distributions of major tree taxa in eastern continental Asia during the last 22,000 years

    Open Access•Xianyong Cao, Ulrike Herzschuh et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2014•Cited by: 5•References: 16

This study investigates the spatial and temporal distributions of 14 key arboreal taxa and their driving forces during the last 22,000 calendar years before ad 1950 (kyr BP) using a taxonomically harmonized and temporally standardized fossil pollen dataset with a 500-year resolution from the eastern part of continental Asia. Logistic regression was used to estimate pollen abundance thresholds for vegetation occurrence (presence or dominance), bas…
