  • Distribution of Chernozems and Phaeozems in Central Germany during the Neolithic period

Open Access•Hans Von Suchodoletz, Christian Tinapp et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2019

  • Late Quaternary fluvial dynamics and landscape evolution at the lower Shulaveris Ghele River (southern Caucasus)

    Open Access•Hans Von Suchodoletz, Dominik Faust•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2018

The southern Caucasus was intensively settled through the Neolithic period to present. Studies of late Quaternary fluvial dynamics and landscape development at the lower Shulaveris Ghele River in southeastern Georgia aid understanding of the Quaternary history of this region. Our studies show that following river aggradation to form a fan-shaped alluvial surface during the late Pleistocene, fluvial sedimentation shifted west, leaving a fan surfac…

  • Climate forcing and shifts in water management on the Northwest Arabian Peninsula (mid-Holocene Rasif wetlands, Saudi Arabia)

Open Access•Christoph Zielhofer, Kai Wellbrock et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • North Atlantic influence on Holocene flooding in the southern Greater Caucasus

    Open Access•Hans Von Suchodoletz, Christoph Zielhofer et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 10

In the context of global climate change, flooding becomes an increasingly serious threat to modern societies, and future flooding can only be understood using long-term geological flood records also encompassing Holocene climate variability. Unlike other regions, Holocene flooding in the Caucasus region is only poorly understood so far: Whereas some rivers originating from the Lesser Caucasus were investigated, no studies exist about rivers origi…

  • Fluvial sediments in eastern Georgia as palaeoenvironmental archives of the Late Quaternary

    Open Access•Hans Von Suchodoletz•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • The evolution of Saharan dust input on Lanzarote (Canary Islands) — influenced by human activity in the Northwest Sahara during the early Holocene

    Open Access•Hans Von Suchodoletz, Hedi Oberhänsli et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 9

An overall Holocene increase of Saharan dust input to the Canary Islands and to the North Canary Basin is accompanied by a strong coarsening of Saharan dust in loess-like sediments deposited on Lanzarote from ~7—8 ka. No similar coarsening events are indicated in investigations of the sedimentological record for the last 180 ka, a period showing several dramatic climate changes. Therefore a mobilisation of Holocene dust by anthropogenic activity …

  • Climate-Driven Ecosystem Succession in the Sahara: The Past 6000 Years

Open Access•S Kröpelin, Dirk Verschuren et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2008

Desiccation of the Sahara since the middle Holocene has eradicated all but a few natural archives recording its transition from a “green Sahara” to the present hyperarid desert. Our continuous 6000-year paleoenvironmental reconstruction from northern Chad shows progressive drying of the regional terrestrial ecosystem in response to weakening insolation forcing of the African monsoon and abrupt hydrological change in the local aquatic ecosystem co…
