Global trends and future projections of cervical cancer burden: An integrated analysis of GBD 2021, UN population and WHO HPV vaccination data
Background: Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We sought to: (1) characterize temporal and geographic patterns of cervical cancer burden (1990-2021), with a focus on age-related differences; (2) identify attributable risk factors for cervical cancer, emphasizing the impact of HPV vaccination; (3) forecast cervical cancer burden thro…
A Corpus-Based Cross-Disciplinary Analysis of Hedging Strategies in Linguistics and Engineering Doctoral Dissertation Introductions
Hedging strategies are essential rhetorical tools in academic writing, enabling authors to express caution, manage interpersonal relationships, and conform to disciplinary conventions. This study examined the use of hedging strategies in the Introduction sections of doctoral d issertations (DDs) in Linguistics (Ling) and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) through a cross-disciplinary lens. Using a corpus-based, mixed-method approach, the…
Teacher Support, Academic Buoyancy, Engagement, and English Academic Achievement: A Moderated Mediation Analysis
Along with the evolution of positive psychology in second language (L2) education, increasing attention has been directed toward the role of non‐cognitive factors in facilitating language development. Although teacher support has been identified as a crucial external resource, the psychological mechanisms through which it influences English academic achievement, particularly the interplay with learners’ internal states, remain under‐explored in E…
The mediating role of personality traits and internet addiction among medical students: A mediation analysis of demographic and behavioral factors
Internet addiction (IA) has emerged as a significant public health concern, particularly among adolescents and university students. This study investigates the complex relationships between personality traits, demographic/behavioral factors, and IA severity among 1,182 medical students. Utilizing cross-sectional study, we assessed IA prevalence, administered validated scales (Chinese Internet Addiction Scale and Big Five Personality Inventory), a…
Effects of Park Utilization Disturbance on Plant Diversity in Karst Urban Remnant Mountain Habitats
Urban remnant habitats, which are crucial biodiversity hotspots, are facing severe threats from urban expansion and infrastructure development. However, the impact of park utilization on plant diversity in these habitats remains underexplored. This study focused on eight urban remnant mountain parks (URMP) in Guiyang City, China, a karst mountain region, and a comprehensive evaluation system for park utilization disturbances was established using…
The Universal but Weak Positive Correlation Between Plant Diversity and Carbon Storage: Evidence From a Global Synthetic Analysis
Research has yielded conflicting quantitative conclusions regarding the relationship between plant diversity and carbon storage, leaving the nature of this correlation at the global scale unresolved. Here, this study quantitatively evaluated the strength of this ecological association through a synthetic analysis of 285 plant diversity–carbon storage pair correlations from 115 studies published globally. Our findings demonstrate that although sub…
Optimizing green space configuration for mitigating land surface temperature: A case study of karst mountainous cities
Cross-Disciplinary Analysis of the Syntactic and Lexical Features of Chinese Master Thesis Titles
This study offered a detailed cross-disciplinary analysis of master thesis titles (MTTs) in the fields of Linguistics and Literature, focusing on the variations in title length, syntactic structure, and lexical features. Utilizing a corpus-based approach, the research analyzed 1,000 MTTs from 25 top universities in China, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore how titles reflect disciplinary conventions. The quantitative a…
Revisit the one-time subsidies and long-run adoption of health products: Quasi-experimental evidence from providing free eyeglasses in rural China
The prevalence and county-level socioeconomic correlates of visual impairment and glasses ownership among rural students in Western China
Objectives Vision health has been a major issue in public health care. The vision problems of children in rural China are of particular concern. Effective policies for children's vision health should consider the heterogeneity of individual health levels and regional differences in healthcare services. This study systematically explored the relationship of student visual impairment and glasses ownership with county-level socioeconomic status (nam…
Using multi-source data to understand the factors affecting mini-park visitation in Yancheng
Mini-parks are becoming a popular form of outdoor recreational space in densely populated areas, largely because their small size makes site selection easier than for ordinary parks. However, existing studies on mini-parks are limited because most of them rely on data collected through traditional surveys, which are severely restricted by space and time. In this study, we utilised Tencent user density data – a type of space–time synchronous data …
Study on the Allocation of SO2 Emission Rights in the Yangtze River Delta City Agglomeration Region of China Based on Efficiency and Feasibility
Response of Ecosystem Health to Land Use Changes and Landscape Patterns in the Karst Mountainous Regions of Southwest China
The quantitative assessment of ecosystem health is important for interpreting the ecological effects of land use changes and formulating effective measures of sustainable ecological development by policymakers. This study investigated the response of ecosystem health to land use changes and landscape patterns in the karst mountainous regions of southwest China by taking Guiyang City as a case study area and assessing the spatial and temporal chan…
Assessing mini-park installation priority for regreening planning in densely populated cities
Assessment of physical fitness and its correlates in Chinese children and adolescents in Shanghai using the multistage 20‐M shuttle‐run test
Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a multistage 20‐m shuttle‐run test (20‐m SRT) in assessing the physical fitness of Chinese children and adolescents in Shanghai. Methods A total of 4833 children and adolescents (2437 males and 2396 females, aged 7–17 years) were enrolled in this study. Height, weight, body fat percentage, fat‐free mass, BMI, and skinfold thickness were measured or calculated. The participants w…
Effects of Revegetation on Soil Organic Carbon Storage and Erosion-Induced Carbon Loss under Extreme Rainstorms in the Hill and Gully Region of the Loess Plateau
These results indicate that natural revegetation is more effective in enhancing SOC storage and reducing soil erosion than artificial vegetative recovery on hillsides. However, natural secondary forest communities, with higher SOC content and storage capacity, may also contribute to larger SOC loss under extreme rainstorms
