Variational Bayesian inference for sparse item response theory models
Item response theory (IRT) model is a widely appreciated statistical method in exploring the relationship between individual latent traits and item responses. In this paper, a sparse IRT model is established to address the sparsity of factor loadings. A global and local shrinkage prior is imposed to penalize the factor loadings: the global parameter controls the amount of shrinkage at the column levels, while the local parameter adjusts the penal…
The effectiveness of augmented reality‐based interventions for individuals with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities
A Bayesian three‐level meta‐analysis was conducted to examine the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR) based interventions in enhancing the domain‐specific skills of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Five moderators, age, gender, disorder type, AR content and skill domains, were further tested to explore the sources of heterogeneity in intervention effectiveness. A total o…
Shield construction safety risks and their interrelations analysis of subway tunnel undercrossing a river based on Grey-Dematel-ISM
A large number of subway projects were designed and constructed by China’s city government and more subway tunnels can hardly avoid undercrossing a river. Shield construction of subway tunnel undercrossing a river (STUR) is often in a complicated geological environment, which cause the construction process more prone to safety accidents. Hence, it is necessary to investigate the shield construction safety risks (SCSRs) of STUR in advance. The pap…
Long-term exposure to residential greenness and cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality in China
This study provides compelling evidence that higher residential greenness is associated with a reduced risk of CVD among the adult Chinese population, with specific modifiable risk factors playing a mediating role. These findings underscore the significance of incorporating green space interventions into CVD prevention strategies
The Impact of Block Play on Young Children’s Production of Intrinsic Frame of Reference
Research Findings: Although the importance of block play to children’s spatial ability has been recognized globally, little is known about children’s use of spatial frames of reference during spatial processing. This study investigated the intervention with guided block play to promote children’s use of their intrinsic frame of reference, an identified effective frame of reference for spatial information. Participants included 42 kindergarten chi…
Chinese Preschoolers’ Pattern Creation
Research Findings: Pattern creation (PC) is creating a pattern unit based on children’s own understanding of the concept of pattern, without being provided with a pattern unit as a reference, and the repetition of this pattern unit to create a complete structure. This study explored the performance and predictors of pattern creation (PC) among Chinese preschoolers at five to six years of age. Altogether 48 children (Mage = 5.44 years, SD = 0.38, …
Si-Ni-San reduces lipid droplet deposition associated with decreased YAP1 in metabolic dysfunction–associated fatty liver disease
A city-scale inverse modelling method for air pollutant source determination
Performance of Polytomous IRT Models With Rating Scale Data
The implementation of polytomous item response theory (IRT) models such as the graded response model (GRM) and the generalized partial credit model (GPCM) to inform instrument design and validation has been increasing across social and educational contexts where rating scales are usually used. The performance of such models has not been fully investigated and compared across conditions with common survey-specific characteristics such as short tes…
