  • A possible case of bone metastasis in a human skeleton from Iași city (Romania) of the 17th-19th centuries

    Open Access•Ozana-Maria Ciorpac-Petraru, Vasilica-Monica Groza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 5

  • Dental phenotypic variability in an archaeological human population of the 16th–19th centuries from Iaşi city (Romania)

    Open Access•Mariana Popovici, Vasilica‐monica Groza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 82

Phenotypic diversity in the human population from Iaşi city, in the 16th–19th centuries, supports gene flow and mobility. • The dental material subjected to geometric morphometric techniques is represented by the second mandibular molar. • The plasticity of mesial surface of the molar was found to define the dental phenotypic patterns in the studied population. This study aims to assess the variability of dental morphology within a human populati…

  • Bioarcheological Study on a Human Skeleton of Sabatinovka Culture, Discovered at Novosiolovca (Taraclia District, Republic of Moldova)

“Olga Necrasov” Center of Anthropological Research, Mariana Popovici et al.•ARTICLE•Annuaire Roumain d Anthropologie•2025

This work presents the results of anthropological examination of a skeleton belonging to Sabatinovka culture, discovered at Novosiolovca (Taraclia District, Republic of Moldova). Although the skeleton’s poor state of preservation limited the analysis, the recovered remains revealed data on age at death and sex (i.e., female of 25–30 years old), and on dentition such as an advanced dental wear and some non-metric traits (i.e., mesial accessory cus…

  • Dental anthropology on two skeletons of early bronze age from congaz (gagauzia autonomous territorial unit, republic of moldova): Dental Wear and Non-Metric Traits

“Olga Necrasov” Center of Anthropological Research, Mariana Popovici et al.•ARTICLE•Annuaire Roumain d Anthropologie•2024

The morphological description of the permanent dentition belonging to two skeletons of Early Bronze Age (Jivotilovka Culture) from Congaz, (Găgăuzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, Republic of Moldova) is realized in this article. The work is focused on the nonmetric traits according to the ASUDAS scoring system, and the dental wear. The occlusal wear and antemortem fractures observed in the dental material indicate the consumptions of abrasive and …

  • Preliminary odontometric study on a sample of human second molars of 16th -19th centuries, from the city of Iași (Romania)

“Olga Necrasov” Center of Anthropological Research, Vasilica‐monica Groza et al.•ARTICLE•Annuaire Roumain d Anthropologie•2024

Owing to their excellent postmortem preservation, teeth are particularly important in archeological and forensic contexts. Teeth have been studied in several bioarchaeological research areas including crown morphology and size. Although odontometrics received attention in the last decades, there are few studies regarding tooth crown dimensional variability in past human populations from Romania. This study refers to the metric variability assessm…
