    Open Access•Ann‐charlotte Palmgren•ARTICLE•Ethnologia Fennica•2026

This article aims to show how repetitions, together with related patterns such as echoes and loops, within interview material, interview settings and research poetry evoke affective meanings. The article takes a poem written by the researcher as its point of departure to reflect on repetitions in poetic inquiry and to explore how repetition also appears in interview material. Ten semi-structured interviews with Finland-Swedish young adults aged 1…

  • In Search of the New Man

    Open Access•Ann‐charlotte Palmgren, Ann-Charlotte Palmgren•ARTICLE•Budkavlen•2023

My aim in this article is to explore today's male roles and ideals by analysing the new men's magazines. I have primarily focussed on two magazines. I have also chosen to interview men in order to gain an understanding of how they perceive the masculine ideals prevalent in today's society as well as what they think of the new magazines. Does the everyday ideal correspond to that presented in the magazines? As my article deals with men's magazines…

  • Jakten på den nya mannen

    Open Access•Ann‐charlotte Palmgren, Ann-Charlotte Palmgren•ARTICLE•Budkavlen•2023

In this hybrid poem, the voices of four teenage girls, a 36‐year‐old gender scholar, a shopping mall and scholars on place and walking interviews share space and rhythms. Drawing on data generated during interviews with the girls about their relationships to a shopping mall in Turku, Finland, the author examines (walking) interviews as a method and power dynamics related to movement and non‐movement, interviewer and interviewee, as well as inclus…

This article examines teen girls’ memories of places and encounters in Turku (Finland), in relation to local discourses on teenagers and public or semi-public places. The empirical material consists of written memories by ninety-seven girls, in addition to newspaper articles, online discussions, blog entries and everyday talk about the city. I argue that silences can be as significant as the voiced. The theoretical work of Michel de Certeau, with…
