  • Political and labour activism of Polish workers in the UK

Open Access•Grzegorz Piotrowski, Elżbieta Kolasińska•ARTICLE•Transfer European Review of…•2026

This article examines labour activism of Polish migrants in the United Kingdom and identifies several strategies they have adopted, including joining UK trade unions and making use of migrant organisations for labour rights advocacy. The research, based on interviews with Polish activists, reveals that mainstream UK trade unions are often unwelcoming to migrant workers because of their traditional class-based structures. This may prompt migrants …

By investigating these connections in 2016 using social network analysis and interviews, we contribute to a better understanding of the growth and structure of these groups, which created the base for right-wing organizations as well as led to the success of right-wing p…

    Open Access•Grzegorz Piotrowski•ARTICLE•Roczniki Humanistyczne•2023

  • What Comes after a Cycle of Protests: The Case of the 2020 Women's Protests in Poland

    Open Access•M Muszel, Grzegorz Piotrowski•ARTICLE•Monthly Review•2022

Two years after the peak of the 2020 street protests for reproductive rights in Poland, Magdalena Muszel and Grzegorz Piotrowski explore the movement's effects on Polish society. Despite the dissipating energy of the participants and continued intransigence of most major parties, this cycle of protests shifted the values and political preferences of specific gender and age groups, as well as affecting the common perception of protest movements in…

    Open Access•Grzegorz Piotrowski, M Muszel•ARTICLE•Ethnologia Polona•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 25

Late 2020 witnessed one of the biggest cycles of protests in contemporary Poland that were sparked by the decision of the Constitutional Tribunal further restricting the abortion law. This cycle of contention was somewhat similar to of the protests organized in 2016 and later but stood out in terms of scale and geographic distribution. The 2016 protests were surprising as they also emerged in Polish small and provincial towns. The scale of 2020's…

  • ‘Sometimes Anti-Social, Always Anti-Fascist’ – Interplay Between Moderate and Radical Actors in the Polish Anti-Racist and Anti-Fascist Movements

    Open Access•Grzegorz Piotrowski•ARTICLE•Studia Socjologiczne•2021

With the populist tide on the rise, comparisons of contemporary right-wing governments to fascist regimes are increasingly common. The rise of the populist right-wing politics has created a number of reactions, using either new or established forms of political resistance. One of such examples is the anti-fascist movement whose strength grows in many national contexts. The recently observed political swing to the right results also in a radicaliz…

Film ten neguje formalne schematy porn…

Poland is pointed out as extraordinary on the map of squatting in post-socialist Europe and a considerable number of tenants’ organizations are active in the country. What is most interesting is that squatters and tenants’ activists are forming alliances, despite obvious differences in t…

Jarocin in Poland is usually associated with one of the biggest rock festivals behind the Iron Curtain. It was not only a birthplace of many music groups in the 1980s, but also an enclave of freedom in communist Poland. It was a place where young people could manifest their music and fashion tastes, listen to their favorite bands and enjoy few days of relative freedom. This article highlights the main events in the history of the festival and als…

The rise of these groups, closely related to subcultures, should be perceived not only as one of the ways of fighting the communist regimes in the region, but also as a criticism of pro-democratic dissidents. The opposition's shift towards neoliberal positions, as well as the elitism of the intellectuals forming the mov…
