  • Digital Imports and Firm‐Level Employment

    Open Access•Lan Lin, Hylke Vandenbussche•ARTICLE•World Economy•2026

The automation literature suggests that digitalization results in less jobs and lower demand for labour because of the substitutability of humans by digital equipment in the production process. This paper uses Chinese firm‐level data with information on firm‐level digital import shocks by type of digital equipment, to examine the impact on firm‐level employment. Interestingly, we estimate a positive and statistically significant average treatment…

  • Association between occupational exposure to gasoline and anemia

Open Access•Lan Lin, Hongmei Cao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Occupational exposure to gasoline is associated with an increased incidence of anemia, with a positive correlation between occupational gasoline exposure levels and the severity of anemia. The incidence and severity of anemia increase while hemoglobin levels decrease in line with increasing gasoline exposure concentrations. These findings emphasize the importance of assessing anemia in workers exposed to gasoline

  • Association between exposure to metalworking fluid aerosols, occupational noise and chronic kidney disease

Open Access•Li Zhou, Beining Wu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Occupational MWF aerosols and noise were positively and nonlinearly associated with CKD, and cumulative MWF aerosols and noise exposure showed a positive interaction with CKD. These findings emphasize the importance of assessing kidney function of workers exposed to MWF aerosols and occupational noise. Prospective and longitudinal cohort studies are necessary to elucidate the causality of these associations
