  • Politics without Commerce? Explaining the Discontinuity in Soviet-Nigerian Relations, 1971-1979

Ehimika A Ifidon, Charles Osarenomase Osarumwense•ARTICLE•African and Asian Studies•2015•References: 14

The paper set out to explain the discontinuity in Soviet-Nigerian relations between the periods 1967-1970 and 1971-1979. The explanation usually given for the poor relations between Nigeria and the Soviet Union between 1960 and 1966 is the anti-communism of the Nigerian political elite; and ideological incompatibility for the non-vibrant relations between 1971 and 1979. These explanations appear idealistic and hypothetical. A major source of the …

  • African-Americans and the Italo–Ethiopian Crisis, 1935–1936

    Open Access•Edward O Erhagbe, Ehimika A Ifidon•ARTICLE•Aethiopica•2012

In a world where the Negro groped for recognition, Ethiopia (Abyssinia), with its ancient institutions and sovereignty virtually intact, was a symbol of racial pride and achievement. This Ethiopia was however invaded by Italy in 1935. It was a racial interpretation that the Negro world gave the Italian invasion. African-American interest in Africa which hitherto had been romantic and sentimental, with the Italian invasion became practical, and in…

  • Did Pan-Africanism beget Nationalism? Race and Territory in the Discourse on Pan-Africanism

    Ehimika A Ifidon, EA Ifidon•ARTICLE•Lagos Historical Review•2008

The paper interrogates the tendency in the discourse on pan-Africanism to consider nationalism (the movement towards statehood in Africa) as a consequence of pan-Africanism, that is, diasporan pan-Africanism, and to discern a continuity and causal connection between diasporan pan-Africanism of the early twentieth century and continental pan-Africanism of the 1950s that resulted in the establishment of the Organization of African Unity. To be vali…

  • Social Rationality and Class Analysis on National Conflict in Nigeria

    Open Access•Ehimika A Ifidon•ARTICLE•Africa Development•1999

L'essai sou…
