  • Comparison of different sets of external standards for the LA-ICP-MS analysis of North American copper artifacts

    Open Access•L Dussubieux, M A Hill et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 10

  • Elemental analysis of Late Archaic copper from the McQueen Shell Ring, St. Catherine's Island, Georgia

    Open Access•M A Hill, Gregory D Lattanzi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 1

  • Great Lakes Copper and Shared Mortuary Practices on the Atlantic Coast

    Open Access•Matthew C Sanger, Brian D Padgett et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 41

Analysis of human remains and a copper band found in the center of a Late Archaic (ca. 5000-3000 cal BP) shell ring demonstrate an exchange network between the Great Lakes and the coastal southeast United States. Similarities in mortuary practices suggest that the movement of objects between these two regions was more direct and unmediated than archaeologists previously assumed based on 'down-the-line' models of exchange. These findings challenge…

  • Geochemical Analysis of Mica Source Specimens and Artifacts From the Abbott Farm National Historic Landmark (28me1)

    Open Access•M T Boulanger, Gregory D Lattanzi et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 16

The Abbott Farm National Historic Landmark is one of the more significant Woodland-period sites in the Northeast. Numerous Hopewellian cultural traits (copper artifacts, cremated burials, exotic cherts, and mica) have been identified at the site. Numerous potential geological sources for the mica artifacts exist in the Mid-Atlantic region. We explore two analytical methods to evaluate the most likely geological sources of the mica artifacts. Sour…

  • Isotopic analysis of museum-archived soil samples from archeological sites

    Open Access•Gregory D Lattanzi, Gary E Stinchcomb•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 5

  • AMS Radiocarbon Dates for Pleistocene Fauna from the American Northeast

    Open Access•Matthew T Boulanger, Gregory D Lattanzi et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2015•References: 7

Northeastern North America has produced an incredible number of late Pleistocene faunal remains; however, many of these were discovered and excavated prior to the development of radiocarbon dating. Moreover, many of the 14 C dates that do exist for such specimens were assayed prior to the development of purified collagen extraction methods, were performed on botanical remains of unspecified association with the faunal remains, or were accepted wi…

  • Elucidating the Origin of Middle Atlantic Pre-Contact Copper Artifacts Using Laser Ablation ICP–MS

    Open Access•Gregory D Lattanzi•ARTICLE•North American Archaeologist•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 29

An examination of pre-Contact copper artifacts from sites in the Middle Atlantic Region provides valuable and quantifiable information about trade networks, social organization, and cultural change. Using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (LA ICP–MS) a copper “fingerprint” with which to compare artifacts to known native sources is established. In this way, copper artifacts are traced back to their probable geologic sourc…
