  • Carbon monoxide isotopic measurements in Indianapolis constrain urban source isotopic signatures and support mobile fossil fuel emissions as the dominant wintertime CO source

Open Access•Isaac J Vimont, Isaac Vimont et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2017

We present measurements of CO mole fraction and CO stable isotopes (δ13CO and δC18O) in air during the winters of 2013–14 and 2014–15 at tall tower sampling sites in and around Indianapolis, USA. A tower located upwind of the city was used to quantitatively remove the background CO signal, allowing for the first unambiguous isotopic characterization of the urban CO source and yielding 13CO of –27.7 ± 0.5‰ VPDB and C18O of 17.7 ± 1.1‰ VSMOW for th…

  • High-Resolution Greenland Ice Core Data Show Abrupt Climate Change Happens in Few Years

    Open Access•Jørgen Peder Steffensen, K K Andersen et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2008

The last two abrupt warmings at the onset of our present warm interglacial period, interrupted by the Younger Dryas cooling event, were investigated at high temporal resolution from the North Greenland Ice Core Project ice core. The deuterium excess, a proxy of Greenland precipitation moisture source, switched mode within 1 to 3 years over these transitions and initiated a more gradual change (over 50 years) of the Greenland air temperature, as r…

  • Multiproxy Record of Late Pleistocene–Holocene Climate and Vegetation Changes from a Peat Bog in Patagonia

Open Access•Elise Pendall, Vera Markgraf et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2001

Pollen assemblage changes and stable hydrogen isotope analysis of mosses ( Sphagnum magellanicum and Drepanocladus s.l.) from a bog in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, provided independent proxies for reconstructing changes in effective moisture and temperature over the past 16,000 cal yr B.P. A deterministic model was used to reconstruct the stable hydrogen isotope composition of meteoric water from the D/H ratios of bog mosses over the last 16,000 …

  • Oxygen isotope and palaeotemperature records from six Greenland ice‐core stations

    Open Access•Sigfús J Johnsen, Dorthe Dahl‐Jensen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Quaternary Science•2001

Oxygen isotope variations spanning the last glacial cycle and the Holocene derived from ice‐core records for six sites in Greenland (Camp Century, Dye‐3, GRIP, GISP2, Renland and NorthGRIP) show strong similarities. This suggests that the dominant influence on oxygen isotope variations reflected in the ice‐sheet records was regional climatic change. Differences in detail between the records probably reflect the effects of basal deformation in the…

  • Tree-Ring Dating of Baldcypress and the Potential for Millennia-Long Chronologies in the Southeast

    Open Access•David W Stahle, Edward R Cook et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1985•Cited by: 5•References: 11

The tree-ring dating of baldcypress has been achieved in the southeastern United States, and the first 500 to 600 year long baldcypress chronologies have been developed from remnant stands of old-growth trees. An 800 year long cypress tree-ring chronology based on living trees and extended with long dead submerged logs has recently been dated, demonstrating the feasibility for very long chronology extension using progressively older sources of pr…
