    Open Access•Aarushi H Shah, Iris A Becene et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Qualitative Research in…•2022

There is a dearth of qualitative studies exploring the lived experiences of frontline healthcare personnel (HCP) during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. We examined workplace stressors, psychological manifestations of said stressors, and coping strategies reported through coded open-text responses from 1024 online surveys completed over two months by 923 HCP participating in three nationwide cohorts from Spring 2020. Our findings sugg…

  • Little Hans and Freud's Self-Analysis

    Open Access•Jennifer Stuart•ARTICLE•Journal of the American…•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 11

For nearly a century, Freud's “Analysis of a Phobia in a Five-year-old Boy” (1909) has been read mainly—if often critically—with Freud's conscious aim in mind: providing evidence for the central importance of oedipal conflict. Material recently released by the Freud Archives casts new light on Freud's treatment of Hans's mother, Olga Graf (nee Hönig)—which began at the height of his self-analysis in 1897—and of Hans himself. Read in the enriched …

In traditional psychoanalysis, patients recline on a couch in a way that prevents pa-tients and analysts from seeing each other’s faces. This has been argued to have sig-nificant effects, both positive and negative, on patients ’ treatment. The use of the couch creates an unusual communicative situation in which both parties are physi-cally but not visually copresent. This study examines the content and form of dis-course in 10 audiorecorded psyc…
