  • Las fases formativas de Chiapa de Corzo

    Open Access•Bruce R Bachand•ARTICLE•Estudios de Cultura Maya•2013•Cited by: 8

New discoveries at Chiapa de Corzo are refining our understanding of the site’s Formative period development. This essay compares the latest evidence with past archaeological interpretations and ongoing work in neighboring regions. A more detailed understanding of Chiapa de Corzo is emerging, and with it comes a clearer view of the origin of one of Mesoamerica’s more ancient cultures, the Zoque. The following contribution is more descriptive than…

  • Chiapa de Corzo y los olmecas

    Bruce R Bachand, Aya Yanagawa-Matsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Arqueología mexicana•2011•Cited by: 1

AU-rich elements (AREs) are RNA elements that enhance the rapid decay of mRNA. The fate of ARE-mRNA is controlled by ARE-binding proteins. HuR, a member of the embryonic lethal abnormal vision (ELAV) family of RNA-binding proteins, is involved in the export and stabilization of ARE-mRNA. In the vast majority of cancer cells, HuR constitutively relocates to the cytoplasm, resulting in the stabilization of ARE-mRNA. Previously, we described that th…

  • Onset of the Early Classic Period in the Southern Maya Lowlands

    Open Access•Bruce R Bachand•ARTICLE•Ancient Mesoamerica•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 19

Desecration of Punta de Chimino's ceremonial precinct arounda.d.430 was associated with the appearance of green Pachuca obsidian, pyrite mirror fragments, dart points, a Tikal-style vessel cache, and a peculiar grave with Mexican semblances. A structurally housed Protoclassic stela was removed in an apparent fire ritual and monumental masks adorning the E-Group range building were effaced in a termination rite involving large quantities of refuse…

  • Bayesian Refinement of a Stratified Sequence of Radiometric Dates from Punta De Chimino, Guatemala

    Open Access•Bruce R Bachand•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 17

Bayesian analysis of 6 radiocarbon and 2 luminescence determinations from Punta de Chimino's acropolis provides subcentury chronometric accuracy for a Protoclassic hiatus and a more decisive, incipient Early Classic abandonment. For the latter event, sensitivity tests and a redundant modal value pattern reduce the period of historical interest from a few centuries to several decades. The findings aid in selecting between 2 historical scenarios an…
