Regulating thermal comfort through forest structural diversity: A horizontal and vertical perspective
Unraveling the 3D structure of urban green spaces: Key drivers of cooling effects across urban heat scenarios
The moderating role of caring for grandchildren in the relationship between functional abilities and depression of aged parents in rural China
Introduction This study investigates the impact of functional abilities on depression among rural older adults in China, with a focus on the moderating role of caregiving for grandchildren. Methods Using data from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), 4,366 valid responses were analyzed. Hierarchical regression was employed to examine the relationships between IADL, caregiving, and depression. Results The findings indi…
Public sentiment dynamics in policy transitions: A sentiment analysis based on Weibo data
Introduction: China had been implementing stringent dynamic policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. In late 2022, China made a sudden policy shift from its three-year dynamic zero-COVID to the re-opening policy, which resulted in a divergence of online public opinions and varying sentiments. However, few research has been done to explore the public's sentiment changes toward this abrupt policy shift. Methods: To better inform effective health comm…
Nonlinear relationships between canopy structure and cooling effects in urban forests: Insights from 3D structural diversity at the single tree and community scales
Integrating morphology and vitality to quantify seasonal contributions of urban functional zones to thermal environment
Humans perceive warmth and competence in large language models
Will climate change inevitably disrupt the cryospheric budget dynamics of the Third Pole
The global cryosphere is retreating under ongoing climate change. The Third Pole (TP) of the Earth, which serves as a critical water source for two billion people, is also experiencing this decline. However, the interplay between rising temperatures and increasing precipitation in the TP results in complex cryospheric responses, introducing uncertainties in the future budget of TP cryospheric water (including glacier and snow water equivalents an…
Association between diabetes of different durations and hip fracture in middle-aged and older people: A stratified cohort study from CHARLS 2011–2020
Neither newly diagnosed diabetes nor diabetes with a disease duration of < 6 years was associated with hip fracture compared with no diabetes people. When the duration of diabetes is ≥ 6 years, the risk of hip fracture is significantly increased, and appropriate preventive measures are recommended
Exploring coordinated pathways for sustainable ecosystem and socioeconomic development: A case study of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region
The relationship between parental role expectations and sibling jealousy: The mediating effect of first-born children’s role cognition
An integrated method to quantify human appropriation of net primary production in grasslands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
Impact of crop types and irrigation on soil moisture downscaling in water-stressed cropland regions
Higher visceral adipose tissue is associated with decreased memory suppression ability on food-related thoughts: A 1-year prospective ERP study
Association Between Perceived Levels of Stress and Self-Reported Food Preferences Among Males and Females: A Stated Preference Approach Based on the China Health and Nutrition Survey
Objective Stress is a major public health challenge and is associated with undesirable eating behavior. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore whether there is an association between perceived level of stress and food preference among Chinese adults. Study Design Perceived level of stress was measured using the Chinese version of the 14-item Perceived Stress Scale, whereas self-reported food preferences were investigated by means of five foo…
Parental psychological control and adolescent social problems: The mediating effect of emotion regulation
This study aimed to investigate relationships among parental psychological control, adolescent emotion regulation, and social problems in China. In total, 1,145 adolescents aged 12-15 years participated in the study, which used the Parental Psychological Control Scale, Adolescent Problem Behavior Scale, and Emotion Regulation Scale. The results indicated the following: (1) Compared with only-child teens, adolescents in multi-child families had si…
Assessment of climate change impacts and urban flood management schemes in central Shanghai
Sibling Jealousy and Temperament: The Mediating Effect of Emotion Regulation in China During Covid-19 Pandemic
This study aimed to examine first-born children's sibling jealousy and explore the relationships among first-born children's sibling jealousy, temperament, and emotion regulation in China during COVID-19 pandemic. The research hypotheses of this study are empirically examined through online and offline surveys. A sample of 304 two-child families from China participated in the study; the first-born children were aged between 1.17 and 7 years. The …
Ecosystem restoration on Hainan Island: Can we optimize for enhancing regulating services and poverty alleviation
The restoration of ecosystems provides an important opportunity to improve the provision of ecosystem services. Achieving the maximum possible benefits from restoration with a limited budget requires knowing which places if restored would produce the best combination of improved ecosystem services. Using an ecosystem services assessment and optimization algorithm, we find choices that generate maximum benefits from ecosystem restoration. We appli…
