  • Participation to Leisure Activities and Well-Being in a Group of Residents of Naples-Italy

    Open Access•Sergio Cocozza, P L Sacco et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

We explored the relationship between cultural and social participation, physical activity, and well-being in a group of residents of the metropolitan area of Naples, Italy and the role that resilience plays in this relationship. Naples offers a remarkable urban environment with the potentially beneficial psychological effects of outstanding natural beauty, and one of the world's most impressive repositories of tangible and intangible cultural her…

  • Temporal trends in femoral curvature and length in medieval and modern Scotland

Open Access•Wolfgang Bruns, 村上 幸史 et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2002•Cited by: 3•References: 20

We measured how much the radius of the anterior curvature and the length of the femoral shaft of cadaveric bones have changed from medieval to recent times. Around 20 (x, y) coordinates of a virtual coordinate system were measured at intervals of 1.5 cm along the shaft of the femur to calculate one single radius of a virtual circle in the (x, y) plane. The median radii of curvature were 119, 141, and 158 cm for medieval, early, and late 20th cent…

  • Growth and development of male gymnasts, swimmers, soccer and tennis players

    Open Access•Adam Dominic George Baxter‐jone, A D G Baxter-Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1995

Elite adult athletes are known to have physical and physiological characteristics specifically suited to their sport. However, it is not clear whether the observed adult differences arise because of training or whether the sport selects the individual with the appropriate characteristics. The purpose of this prospective study was to compare and contrast the physical development of young athletes (8-19 years), and in so doing provide a possible re…
