A novel stoat optimization algorithm for wireless sensor network coverage optimization in tourist attractions
Deploying wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in large-scale tourist attractions is challenging because scenic areas typically involve heterogeneous terrain, uneven monitoring priorities, limited sensing resources, and practical deployment constraints. In smart tourism management, inappropriate sensor placement may reduce monitoring effectiveness in critical spaces such as trails, viewpoints, and environmentally sensitive zones. To address this probl…
Understanding Regional Cultural-Psychological Variations and Their Sources in China
This research comprehensively examined regional variations in individualism and collectivism within China and the explanatory power of 20 potential factors derived from the existing cultural psychological theories, including socioecological (e.g., climates, subsistence activities, and modernization) and population (e.g., ethnicity, genetic and linguistic features) ones. Three large-scale studies were conducted. In Study 1 ( N = 18,606), we assess…
Community-Level Seismic Risk and Retrofitting Portfolios in Developing Countries
Large earthquakes may cause severe damage and catastrophic consequences to communities. In developing countries, despite implementing building codes and construction practices, most buildings remain vulnerable due to precode and nonengineering constructions. Existing seismic risk evaluation approaches heavily focus on estimating physical damages and resulting subsequent, direct economic loss, unable to connect physical system performance to the s…
Barriers and facilitators of complications risk perception among rural patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Imagining Ancient Towns Through “Seeding Strategy”
Focusing on mediatized urban images, this examination of Jiangnan water towns analyzes 1000 user-generated posts on Xiaohongshu through word frequency statistics, content categorization, and textual interpretation to demonstrate how “Seeding Strategy” transforms the symbolic representation and cultural identity of ancient towns. The results reveal that mediatized conceptions of water towns operate within a four-dimensional symbolic framework—natu…
AI-driven mixed-methods analysis of technology dependence
Intelligent education systems are reshaping the language learning ecosystem; however, the psychological mechanisms linking technology dependency (TD) and oral English anxiety (OA) remain under-explored. This study employs a mixed-methods approach grounded in Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller, 1988) and Social Cognitive Theory (Bandura, 1986), supplemented by Trait Activation Theory to examine personality moderation associations.Surveying 716 univers…
Shaping History with Dialogues
The writing of histories of Chinese philosophy in the first half of the twentieth century was pivotal in sustaining Chinese philosophy as a sub-discipline under philosophy. Feng Youlan's 馮友蘭 (1895–1990) two-volume The History of Chinese Philosophy stands as a milestone contribution in the field of Chinese philosophy. However, the combined publication of the two volumes in 1934 overshadowed the publication of the first volume in 1931. The 1931 edi…
Projected Destination Image of Beijing on Instagram

Deep learning algorithms and convolutional neural networks were used to analyze the images. The image analytic findings show that Beijing’s projected destination image includes: (1) multiple urban and country landscapes; (2) a …
Reinvestigating the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) of carbon emissions and ecological footprint in 147 countries
Environmental degradation has profoundly impacted both human society and ecosystems. The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) illuminates the intricate relationship between economic growth and environmental decline. However, the recent surge in trade protectionism has heightened global economic uncertainties, posing a severe threat to global environmental sustainability. This research aims to investigate the intricate pathways through which trade pr…
The role of filial piety in filial tourism
Respecting and caring for the elderly is a traditional Chinese virtue, and accompanying parents on trips has emerged as a popular and promising travel mode in family tourism. This study utilizes the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) model to analyze the motivations driving this behavior from three perspectives – parents, family, and self – as perceived by the adult children. It investigates the mediating effects of both authoritative and affection…

Dietary variability in the western black crested gibbon ( Nomascus concolor ) inhabiting an isolated and disturbed forest fragment in Southern Yunnan, China
Forest fragmentation and isolation can reduce the size of available habitat and lead to lower food availability for some primate species. The persistence of nonhuman primates in fragments depends largely on their ability to adjust their diet in response environmental change. The western black crested gibbon (Nomascus concolor) is distributed in northern Vietnam, northwestern Laos, and southwestern China, but little is known about its diet except …

We describe the development of social play behavior and assess factors influencing the development of play in infant Sichuan snub‐nosed monkeys ( Rhinopithecus roxellana ). Infant snub‐nosed monkeys began to exhibit social play at 3 months of age, when they spent an average 0.89% of time engaging in this behavior (range: 0.7–1.12%). At 6 months of age, there was a significant increase in the proportion of time spent in social play, averaging 9.78…
