  • Intellectual competitions for schoolchildren

    Open Access•Dmitriy Egorovich Slizovskiy, M G Ivanova et al.•ARTICLE•RUDN Journal of Sociology•2020

Every historical period forms a special generation with its own values and norms. Children and youth become the main driving force in the development of the higher education, but this system in Russia is going through a difficult period due to the problems unresolved after the 1990s: the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of the higher education, inequalities in the access to education, etc. Therefore, intellectual competitions can be consi…

  • The Use of Remote Sensing, Geophysical Methods and Soil Analysis in the Study of Sites Disturbed by Agricultural Activity

    Open Access•I V Zhurbin, Alexander V Borisov et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2019

This study is based on an interdisciplinary approach to the prospection of archaeological sites impacted by modern agricultural plowing activity. We applied remote sensing, combined with geophysical, geochemical, and archaeological methods at Kushmanskoye III — a medieval Finno-Ugric site in the Cheptsa River basin, northern Udmurtia (9th–13th centuries AD). As a result of many years of plowing, the site cannot be visually demarcated, and visual …

  • Geophysical Studies at the Kushmanskoye (Uchkakar) Fortifi Ed Settlement, Kama Basin

    Open Access•I V Zhurbin, Maria Ivanova-Bieg et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2018

This article presents the results of interdisciplinary research at Kushmanskoye (Uchkakar) fortifi ed settlement dating to the 9th– 13th centuries. Using geophysical methods, such as resistivity and magnetometry surveys, ground penetrating radar, and electrical resistivity tomography, we were able to assess the total area of the site (over 26,000 sq. m), outline its boundaries, evaluate its structure, and reconstruct the layout of all the three l…

  • Fortifications at Idnakar Settlement

    Open Access•Maria Ivanova-Bieg, M G Ivanova et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 1

The study presents the results of multidisciplinary archaeological and geophysical studies of three fortification lines at Idnakar settlement located in the Kama region (9th–13th centuries). Details of the shape and construction of embankments in each fortification line are identified. The gradual expansion of the site via the construction of new fortification lines and their repeated reinforcement testify to the intense development of production…

  • The Archaeological and Geophysical Study of Defense Works

    Open Access•M G Ivanova, Mariya Ivanova et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 1

The following article discusses a methodology of the study of earthworks based on the combined application of archaeological and geophysical methods. This methodology enables scholars to identify archaeological objects which are not exposed to the earth's surface, to reconstruct their shape, and to determine their geometrical parameters. Archaeological excavations provide an opportunity to correlate observed anomalies with real objects. The final…
