    Open Access•K Vasiliev, E S Bogdanov et al.•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2024

The article describes to the first results of the study of faunal remains recovered from the urban settlement of Karakabak on the Mangyshlak Peninsula. This large port and trade and craft center existed on the Caspian-Pontic section of the Great Silk Road in the 1st–6th centuries AD. At present, more than 16.2 thousand identifiable bone remains have been analyzed. They belong to 6 species of domestic and 12 species of wild mammals, and also inclu…

  • Faunal Remains from the Pleistocene Deposits in the Chagyrskaya Cave (Evidence of 2024)

    Open Access•Anastasiya Kolyasnikova, K Vasiliev et al.•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2024

The Chagyrskaya cave is located in the Northwestern Altai on the Charysh River. It is a key site of the Sibiryachikha phase of the Middle Paleolithic in the Altai. This article presents new faunal evidence from the site. In the field season of 2024, over 13,700 animal remains were extracted from Pleistocene layers 6a and 6c/1. Compared to layer 6a, layer 6c/1 contained a higher share of bone remains with anthropogenic modifications, mostly observ…

  • Late Pleistocene Environments of East Kazakhstan (Based on Ushbulak Site Materials)

    A А Anoikin, G Pavlenok et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2023

  • Late Pleistocene Environments of East Kazakhstan (Based on Ushbulak Site Materials)

    Open Access•A А Anoikin, A A Anoikin et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2023•Referencias: 11

We reconstruct environmental conditions at various stages of the Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene of East Kazakhstan. The reconstructions are based on materials from the stratified Ushbulak site in the Shilikta Valley, spanning a period from the Early Upper Paleolithic to the Bronze Age. Climatic changes were evaluated using natural science methods-mineralogical, ZooArchaeology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS), OSL- and AMS-dating, etc. Sevaral st…

  • Vengerovo-2—a Krotovo Culture Site in the Baraba Forest-Steppe

    N Benecke, K Vasiliev et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2021

  • Studies of Verkhnyaya Sibiryachikha Cave in the 2021 Field Season

Open Access•K Kolobova, Vladimir Kharevich et al.•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2021

The Verkhnyaya Sibiryachikha Cave was discovered in the vicinity of the Okladnikov Cave in the course of the IAET SB RAS survey excavation in 2020; the cave studies were continued in 2021. The karst cavity was documented as a paleontological site, Sibiryachikha-6, by the famous paleontologist N.V Ovodov in the late 20th century. In 2021, the existing test-pit was enlarged by 2 sq. m. Five stratigraphic units were established, four of which contai…

    Open Access•Norbert Benecke, K Vasiliev et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

This study addresses faunal remains from Vengerovo-2 in the Baraba forest-steppe—a Bronze Age site associated with the Krotovo culture. We describe the origin of the sample, the distribution of bones in the living space, the species and skeletal parts represented, and the age of the animals. The sample consists of small fragments, which are likely butchering and kitchen waste, as well as the leftovers of production and rituals. Bones of domestica…
