Results of Archaeological and Geophysical Monitoring of the Domashneye Ozero Site (Central Kamchatka) in 2024
The article provides results of the comprehensive archaeological and geophysical studies conducted in 2024 at the Domashneye Ozero site, a key site of the Tarya culture in the Kamchatka River valley. Based on aerial photography, tacheometric survey, and visual inspection data, a detailed topographic plan of the site covering an area of over 32,300 sq. m was created for the first time, revealing 11 dwelling depressions and 26 pits. Geophysical stu…
Investigation of the Cultural Layer from the Ushki I Paleolithic Site Using Electrical Resistivity Tomography
The article provides geophysical studies using the electrical resistivity tomography method conducted during the 2024 field season at the stratified Paleolithic site Ushki I in Central Kamchatka. This method is based on measuring the electrical resistivity. It was applied at the site to determine the thickness of loose deposits, identify anthropogenic anomalies, and assess promising areas for future excavations. In previous years, during the rese…
Results of Geophysical Research at the Ust`-Biyke-I Site (in the Altai)
Ust’-Biyke-I may become one of the most important archaeological complexes in the northern Altai region. Previous research established that the site was first occupied in the developed Mesolithic. Traces of subsequent occupations up to the Bronze Age were later discovered, in addition to burial structures. A loss of archaeological deposits at the mouth of the Biyke River occurred due to natural and anthropogenic activity. In order to identify the…
Peculiarities of Using 2D Electrical Resistivity Tomography in Caves
Peculiarities of Using 2D Electrical Resistivity Tomography in Caves
The efficiency of archaeological studies inside caves could be greatly enhanced by geophysical methods because of their potential for examining deposit structure and features. Application of those methods in caves entails a number of problems caused by limited space for measurements and the complexity of the surrounding medium s structure as compared to above-ground measurements. In 2017, Selungur Cave in the Fergana Valley, Kyrgyzstan, was exami…
Results of Geophysical Research at the Surungur Site (South Kyrgyzstan)
Geoelectric Structure of the Obishir-5 Archaeological Site (Kyrgyzstan) Based on Electrotomography Data
Obishir-5 - multilayer site located in the southern part of Fergana valley (Kyrgyzstan). Culture-stratigraphic sequence presented there is exclusive to Central Asian region - from Upper Paleolithic to Middle Age. The site was studied two times: from 1965 to 1973 and from 2015 till present. The last exploration phase has shown that lower cultural layers contain Upper Paleolithic materials and they were not studied earlier. The abovementioned circu…
Approbation of the Complex of Geophysical Methods in the of Sel”Ungur Cave (Kyrgyzstan)
The Sel’Ungur cave is the largest karst cavity in Western Central Asia which contains archaeological, paleoanthropological and paleontological remains embedded into several lithological layers. The site was excavated in the 80s of the 20th century when it was defined as the Lower Paleolithic item. As a result of a new study which began in 2014 it was proved that stone complexes from the Sel’Ungur cave have the Middle Paleolithic characteristics. …
