  • Revisiting the Correlation Between the Valdivia and San-Pedro Ceramic Complexes (Based on Technological Characteristics)

Alexander N Popov, Jorge G Marcos et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2024

  • Revisiting the Correlation Between the Valdivia and San Pedro Ceramic Complexes (Based on Technological Characteristics)

    Open Access•Alexander N Popov, Jorge G Marcos et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2024•References: 17

This article presents the results of a study of ceramics associated with the Valdivia and San Pedro complexes at the Real Alto site, southwestern Ecuador. The test sample, studied in 2022, includes fragments of vessels from two morphological and functional groups, relating to the first two phases of the Valdivia culture (bowls and pots) and those representing the San Pedro complex (vessels with necks and a bowl). A comparative analysis was based …

  • A Functional Analysis of Lithics of the Early Iron Age Yankovsky Culture

    Alexander N Popov, Y Kanomata et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2022

  • A Functional Analysis of Lithics of the Early Iron Age Yankovsky Culture

    Open Access•Alexander N Popov, Kanomata Yoshitaka et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2022•References: 2

We present the results of a functional analysis of lithics of the Yankovsky culture (800 BC to the turn of the millennium) from two sites–Cherepakha-7 and Solontsovaya-2, excavated over large areas during salvage works in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Such tools are traditionally described as axes, adzes, chisels, knives, spearheads, and projectile points. Certain findings of the functional analysis disagree with this classification. The question …

  • Knap & Keep

    Open Access•Andrey Tabarev, Andrey V Tabarev et al.•ARTICLE•Documenta Praehistorica•2021•References: 7

The tradition of lithic caches illustrates a special strategy of storing lithics which were extracted from chaîne opératoire for some time to be kept/hidden in a special place with/without subsequent return and use. For the Palaeolithic – Neolithic/Jōmon of the Far East (Russian part and the Japanese Archipelago) within the frame of 35 000–2400 cal BP, this tradition demonstrates an impressive multiplicity (more than 400 cases), high diversity, d…

  • Tropical Package”

    Open Access•Andrey Tabarev, Y Kanomata•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 7

The article is devoted to the lithic industries of the most ancient cultures on the Pacific coast of Ecuador – preceramic Las Vegas culture (10,840–6600 BP) and early pottery culture (5500–3500 BP). The original model of the “Tropical package” for the transitional period from hunter-gatherers to early agriculturalists is proposed on the basis of techno-typological and use-wear analysis

  • A Paleolithic Cache at Tolbor (Northern Mongolia)

    Open Access•A V Tabarev, Andrey Tabarev et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2013•Cited by: 11•References: 5

This study presents analyses of a unique assemblage of lithic artifacts, 57 large flakes, discovered in the Ikh Tulberiin Gol River valley of Northern Mongolia. The assemblage represents the first Paleolithic cache ever discovered in Mongolia and is an isolated find, not directly associated with a habitation or logistic activity site. Results of use-wear analysis suggest most of the flakes were unused, with only a few minimally used for processin…
