  • Assessing a facilitated social network intervention for health outcomes in lonely and socially isolated people: The pragmatic, cluster-randomized Pals trial

Open Access•Rebecca Band, Jaimie Ellis et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Introduction Loneliness has received attention in recent years as an important public health issue due to its associations with poorer mental and physical health. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a facilitated social network intervention to alleviate loneliness and social isolation in community settings. Methods A pragmatic, cluster-randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted to compare participants recei…

  • Not all AI-generated faces are created equal: Impacts of model gender, race, and emotional expression on classification accuracy

    Open Access•Megan Lawrence, Megan L Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•AI & Society•2026

  • False admissions of guilt associated with wrongful convictions undermine people’s perceptions of exonerees

Kyle C Scherr, Christopher J Normile et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology Public Policy and Law•2020•Cited by: 1

  • The Map Effect

Amy Lobben, Megan Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the Association of…•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 68

This article presents research designed to investigate map use. Specifically, we interrogate the long-held assumption that people use maps for specific purposes and in specific ways and those purposes and ways differ from other types of graphics. Our approach investigated the behavioral and neurological correlates of map use, differentiated from geometric object use given the same overall task (mental rotation in this case). We asked participants…

  • Geochemical sourcing of obsidians from thePūrākaunuisite,SouthIsland,NewZealand

    Open Access•Megan Lawrence, M D Mccoy et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology in Oceania/Archæology…•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 7

We report the first well‐documented case of aSouthIsland site whereMayorIsland obsidian is not the dominant source represented. At thePūrākaunui site (I44/21), located in coastalOtago, we find that most obsidians come from theTaupoVolcanicZone, including sources nearLakeTaupo (52%) andRotorua (27.7 %). A small proportion of the collection comes fromMayorIsland (10.8%) and theCoromandelPeninsula (9.5%) obsidian. The results point to early effects …

  • A Haptic Soundscape Map of the University of Oregon

Open Access•Megan Lawrence, Megan M Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2009

A course jointly taught with Geography and Computer Science designed the first haptic soundscape map of the University of Oregon campus. An electronic haptic soundscape map is a cartographic representation that is experienced through auditory cues and haptic (dynamic touch) feedback from the hand and fingers. The primary users of this map are blind and visually impaired persons. The goals of this student project was to create a tool that could be…

  • FMRI and Human Subjects Research in Cartography

Amy Lobben, Megan Lawrence et al.•ARTICLE•Cartographica The International…•2009

In the past decade, the use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has grown, both in the number of studies published and in the number of disciplines finding application for functional brain research facilitated by this data-gathering method. A review of fMRI research in perceptual grouping and figure/ground and in visual search and attention is of interest in the effort to understand the human use of maps. These studies provide physiol…
