  • Pilot study on level 3 fingerprint features for their use in forensic identification

    Open Access•María Eugenia Ibáñez-Zamacona, Victor Fernández et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologiai Közlemények•2026

Background: Dermatoglyphs are formed early during prenatal development and, due to their individuality and permanence, are commonly used for identification. When fingertips touch a surface, sweat distributed along the ridges is transferred, producing a latent fingerprint. To use this latent fingerprint for identification purposes, each country establishes a well-defined minimum number of level 2 features (or minutiae). Latent fingerprints obtaine…

  • The Impact of Agribusiness Development Policies on Water Resources: Governance Challenges and Lessons From Morocco’s Water Crisis

Open Access•Moussa Ait el kadi, Lhoussaine Bouchaou et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Environment &…•2026

As the water crisis intensifies around the world, environmental and social shocks such as livelihood loss, conflicts, and tragic depletion of water resources arise. While agribusiness development policies aim at improving the economy, it ignores the governance of limited water resources, vulnerable environment, and rural communities. In this study, we investigate socio-economic and environmental effects of hydro-agricultural policies in the Souss…

  • Lead isotopic provenance of some coins and other bronze items from an early Swahili site in Ibo Island (northern Mozambique)

    Open Access•I Montero-Ruiz, Marisa Ruíz-Gálvez et al.•ARTICLE•Azania Archaeological Research in…•2025•References: 44

Northern Mozambique has traditionally been considered marginal within the Swahili trade of the western Indian Ocean due to the absence of outstanding harbour stone-built towns. However, our research on Ibo island (Quirimbas Archipelago) proves the role played by small coastal villages in the early development of the Indian Ocean trade route. In this paper, we discuss the result of a lead isotope analysis performed on samples of two coins and some…

  • Murales moche en Pampa La Cruz, Huanchaco, costa norte del Perú

Open Access•Gabriel Prieto, Feren Castillo Luján et al.•ARTICLE•Arqueología y Sociedad•2024

Archaeological excavations at the Pampa La Cruz site have revealed Moche-style wall paintings in a ceremonial structure. This unique find constitutes the first case of this type of mural art in a non-monumental site of the Moche society reported in academic media. The analysis of this evidence suggests that it was a narrative inserted in an expansive political and religious program of Moche society around A.D. 600-700. Additionally, it suggests t…

  • The Azazo Project: Archaeology and the Community in Ethiopia

Jaime Almansa, Gashaw Belay et al.•ARTICLE•Public Archaeology•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 11

In this article we discuss the motivations, aims, and preliminary results of working with a local community in Ethiopia. Trying to escape from the (neo)colonial archaeology that is still practised in Africa, this project aims to achieve a cooperative and participative archaeology. This work with the community has been one of our main priorities in our last seasons, and although we have focused on elementary school and university students, we have…
