  • Potentially Inappropriate Medication Use in Patients with Dementia

Open Access•Kyungwon Yoon, Jung Tae Kim∥ et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The objective of this study was to characterize the epidemiology of using potentially inappropriate medications associated with dementia exacerbation (DPIMs) in elderly outpatients with dementia. Electronic medical records were retrospectively reviewed for geriatric patients with dementia who were prescribed at least one medication in 2016 at a tertiary, university-affiliated hospital. The 2015 Beers criteria were used to define DPIMs. Logistic r…

  • The Subject Types Formed through Taekwondo Demonstration Team Activities

  • Gender Differences in the Prevalence of and Factors Related to Non-Suicidal Self-Injury among Middle and High School Students in South Korea

    Open Access•Jin-Young Jeong, Dong-Hyun Kim•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI)-the most severe mental health problem among South Korean adolescents in 2019. The participants were students from 12 middle and seven high schools in a single city in the metropolitan area in South Korea. A cluster-random sampling method was used-one class per school year at each middle and high schools. Every student in the selected classes was investigated. T…

  • Folate, alcohol, ADH1B and ALDH2 and colorectal cancer risk

Open Access•Ju Eun Seol, Jeongseon Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2021

Objective: There is limited evidence on the interaction by alcohol dehydrogenase 2 ( ADH1B ) (rs1229984) and aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 ( ALDH2 ) (rs671) regarding the associations of alcohol and a methyl diet (low folate and high alcohol intake) with cancer risk, partly because of rare polymorphisms in Western populations. Design: In a case–control study, we estimated the ORs and 95 % CIs to evaluate the associations of ADH1B and ALDH2 genotypes w…

  • Poncirin and its metabolite ponciretin attenuate colitis in mice by inhibiting LPS binding on TLR4 of macrophages and correcting Th17/Treg imbalance

  • Trend of Suicide Rates According to Urbanity among Adolescents by Gender and Suicide Method in Korea, 1997–2012

    Open Access•Kyung‐Hwa Choi, Dong-Hyun Kim•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

This study aims to quantifiably evaluate the trend of the suicide rate among Korean adolescents from 1997 to 2012 according to urbanity. We used national death certificates and registration population data by administrative district for 15-19 years-old adolescents. The annual percent change (APC) and average annual percent change (AAPC) were estimated by the Joinpoint Regression Program. The suicide rate in the rural areas was higher than that in…

  • Effect of BMI1 Knockdown on Cell Proliferation, Apoptosis, Invasiveness, and Migration of U251 Glioma Cells

Open Access•Dong Joon Kim, Dong-joon Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Physical…•2015

BMI1 belongs to the polycomb-repressive complex 1 (PRC1) family of genes that are conserved chromatin silencers. These are essential for maintaining both the normal and cancerous stem cell state. In this study, we evaluated the effect of siRNA-mediated BMI1 knockdown on tumor cell properties such as invasion, migration, and apoptosis, as well as on cell signaling pathways responsible for tumor progression in the human glioma cell line, U251. Knoc…

  • Late Quaternary glacial–interglacial variations in sediment supply in the southern Drake Passage

Open Access•Jae Il Lee, Ho Il Yoon et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Geochemical characteristics of marine sediment from the southern Drake Passage were analyzed to reconstruct variations in sediment provenance and transport paths during the late Quaternary. The 5.95 m gravity core used in this study records paleoenvironmental changes during the last approximately 600 ka. Down-core variations in trace element, rare earth element, and Nd and Sr isotopic compositions reveal that sediment provenance varied according …

  • Gender Differences as Factors in Successful Ageing

Open Access•Sang-Mi Park, Sun-Nam Jang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•2010

Over the past century, the population of Korea has aged rapidly as a result of decreasing fertility and mortality. Furthermore, the percentage of the population aged 65 and older is expected to double from 7% to 14% within 18 years, a much shorter doubling period than in most other developed countries. As Korean society ages, interest in healthy and successful ageing has increased. However, although previous studies have examined various determin…

Open Access•Sun-Nam Jang, Soong-Nang Jang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•2009

This study sought to determine which factors among the indicators of socioeconomic status have the most influence on physical, mental and social functions, and on subjective well-being, all of which are components of successful ageing. A representative random sample of 1825 persons aged 65 years or older was surveyed by face-to-face interview. Socioeconomic status was measured by educational level, family household income, personal income and pro…
