  • The Ideational Turn in Assortative Mating

    Open Access•Yanwen Wang•ARTICLE•Sociology Compass•2026

Research on assortative mating has long documented how individuals sort into partnerships by ascribed characteristics such as race/ethnicity and achieved markers such as education. Yet an ideational turn, I argue, is underway in three respects. First, about existence, individuals sort on values, beliefs, and life orientations that bear directly on how partnership and family life are organized, such as fertility intentions and gender role attitude…

  • Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Growing-season Carbon Sinks and Drivers Across Different Climatic Gradients and Vegetation Types in the Alpine Zone

Open Access•Y Feng, Enqin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) is a climate-sensitive region that functions as both a critical ecological barrier and a major terrestrial carbon sink. However, it remains unclear how growing-season net ecosystem productivity (NEP) responds to hydroclimatic variations across vegetation types and climatic gradients. Here, we explored the spatiotemporal dynamics of growing-season NEP across the QTP during 1981–2019 and quantified its climatic contr…

  • Assessing the regulatory efficacy of National Key Ecological Function Zones on ecosystem service balance

Open Access•Kewei Xu, Mingmei Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Balancing ecosystem service supply and demand is essential for regional sustainable development. The designation of National Key Ecological Function Zones (NKEFZs) serves as a critical policy tool to strengthen ecological regulation. This study evaluates four key ecosystem services—water provision (WP), crop production (CP), carbon storage (CS), and habitat quality (HQ) —in Hubei Province from 2005 to 2022, analyzing supply-demand surpluses and d…

  • Spatio-Temporal Heterogeneity of the Relationships Between PM2.5 and Its Determinants: A Case Study of Chinese Cities in Winter of 2020

Open Access•Lu Yang, Song Hong et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) poses threat to human health in China, particularly in winter. The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) led to a series of strict control measures in Chinese cities, resulting in a short-term significant improvement in air quality. This is a perfect case to explore driving factors affecting the PM 2.5 distributions in Chinese cities, thus helping form better policies for future PM 2.5 mitigation. Based…

  • Complex regional telecoupling between people and nature revealed via quantification of trans‐boundary ecosystem service flows

Open Access•Yanwen Wang, Song Hong et al.•ARTICLE•People and Nature•2022

Quantifying and mapping trans‐boundary ecosystem service (ES) flows can help identify dependencies and responsibilities for promoting economic development and environmental sustainability between nations, but few studies have focused on ES flows beyond national boundaries. Our case‐study region—Central Asia—hosts one of the largest dryland areas in the world, and this ecosystem is vulnerable to climate variability and anthropogenic impacts. Under…

  • Recent responses of grassland net primary productivity to climatic and anthropogenic factors in Kyrgyzstan

Open Access•Yanwen Wang, Huanbi Yue et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2020

Net primary productivity (NPP) is an essential indicator of ecosystem function and sustainability and plays a vital role in the carbon cycle, especially in arid and semiarid grassland ecosystems. Quantifying trends in NPP and identifying the contributing factors are important for understanding the relative impacts of climate change and human activities on grassland degradation. For our case‐study of Kyrgyzstan, we quantified from 2000 to 2014 the…

  • Accumulation of As, Cd, and Pb in Sixteen Wheat Cultivars Grown in Contaminated Soils and Associated Health Risk Assessment

Open Access•Guanghui Guo, Mei Lei et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

This study investigated the accumulation of As, Cd, and Pb in 16 wheat cultivars and the associated health risks for the inhabitants of Jiyuan, China. The results indicated that the concentrations of As, Cd, and Pb decreased in the order of root > leaf > stem > grain. The concentrations of As, Cd, and Pb in wheat grains varied from 0.13 for Pingan8 to 0.34 mg kg -1 for Zhengmai7698, 0.10 for Luomai26 to 0.25 mg kg -1 for Zhengmai7698, and 0.12 fo…
