  • Fusion power

    Open Access•CHRIS LLEWELLYN-SMITH, Donald Ward et al.•ARTICLE•European Review•2005•Cited by: 1

Fusion, which powers the sun and stars, is potentially an environmentally responsible and intrinsically safe source of essentially limitless energy on earth. The potential of fusion has been recognized for over 65 years, but mastering fusion on earth has proved to be an enormous scientific and technical challenge. It involves heating a large volume of dilute gas, containing equal parts of deuterium and tritium, to over 100M°C (M°C=one million deg…

  • Dasher

Donald Ward, David J Ward et al.•ARTICLE•Human-Computer Interaction•2002

Existing devices for communicating information to computers are bulky, slow, or unreliable. Dasher is an interface incorporating language modeling and driven by continuous two-dimensional gestures (e.g., a mouse, a stylus, or eye-tracker). Tests have shown that, after 1 hr of practice, novice users reach a writing speed of about 20 words per minute (wpm) while taking dictation. Experienced users achieve writing speeds of about 34 wpm, compared wi…
