  • Cochlear Sensitivity in Nonhuman Primates: High Individual Variation and Modulation By Environment, Ecological Traits, and Sex

Open Access•Myriam Marsot, Nicolas Poulet et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026•References: 109

  • Patrilineal populations show more male transmission of reproductive success than cognatic populations in Central Asia, which reduces their genetic diversity

    Open Access•Evelyne Heyer, Jean‐Tristan Brandenburg et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 43

OBJECTIVE: The extent to which social organization of human societies impacts the patterns of genetic diversity remains an open question. Here, we investigate the transmission of reproductive success in patrilineal and cognatic populations from Central Asia using a coalescent approach. METHODS: We performed a study on the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and Y chromosome polymorphism of patrilineal and cognatic populations from Central Asia. We reconstr…

  • Thomas Jefferson's Y chromosome belongs to a rare European lineage

    Open Access•T King, Turi E King et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2007•Cited by: 5•References: 34

We have characterized the Y chromosome carried by President Thomas Jefferson, the general rarity of which supported the idea that he, or a patrilineal relative, fathered the last son of his slave Sally Hemings. It belongs to haplogroup K2, a lineage representing only ∼1% of chromosomes worldwide, and most common in East Africa and the Middle East. Phylogenetic network analysis of its Y‐STR (short tandem repeat) haplotype shows that it is most clo…
