  • The determinants of euro zone development: Governments and Fragile Legitimacy

Uwe Puetter, Sonja Puntscher Riekmann•ARTICLE•Journal of European Public Policy•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 22

Euro zone economic governance is determined by governments, as member states resist ultimate transfers of authority to traditional supranational institutions. Neither crisis-driven institutional change nor later reform initiatives have altered this predominant role of domestic executives. The Commission cannot exercise ultimate decision-making powers in the domain of economic governance unilaterally. Instead it is co-opted to what could be called…

    Sonja Puntscher Riekmann, Doris Wydra•ARTICLE•Contemporary Politics•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 38

The sovereign debt crisis has exposed the weaknesses of the regulative and institutional arrangements of the European Monetary Union. A number of American scholars have highlighted that there are lessons on federalism for Europe to learn from the USA. • Representation in the European State of Emergency: Parliaments against Governments

Sonja Puntscher Riekmann, Doris Wydra•ARTICLE•Journal of European Integration•2013•Cited by: 32•References: 18

‘If governments allow themselves to be entirely bound to the decisions of their parliament, without protecting their own freedom to act, a break up of Europe would be a more probable outcome than deeper integration.’ The statement of the Italian Prime Minister and head of the so-called ‘governo tecnico words have to be seperated ’ is one remarkable instance for colliding visions of representation in EU member states affected by the financial cris…

  • European administration: Centralisation and fragmentation as means of polity-building

Johannes Pollak, Sonja Puntscher Riekmann•ARTICLE•West European Politics•2008•Cited by: 10•References: 20

The creation of a unified administrative space is part and parcel of all polity-building processes. We hold that the accelerating agencification in the European Union has created a complex administrative space characterised by simultaneous centralisation and fragmentation. Due to the fact that the finalité of integration is open-ended, this complexity is not just a passing occurrence but a defining moment of the EU. Administrative cooperation wit…
